Irene Please pay attention to this one, bunnies. Esp. DC - Boston folks - if they say go, go. It's not going to be any kind of fun like a blizzard or some such. Bad feeling. Perhaps too much weather channel, but seriously.
Yes this looks fucking scary for a huge swath of the East Coast. Do be careful, dear bunnies.

Evacuation notices are horrible, but you have to do it. I'll tell you the story of a friend trapped in his house with three feet of water pressing against his SECOND STORY sliding glass doors sometime, down in Key West. Believe it if they say "You need to leave now."

Irene is going to hit the Carolina shores MERE DAYS before I leave the continent for quite some time. We are staying with my in-laws at the shore. My husband and mother-in-law might very well high-tail it out of here, but me? Me and my homie? My father-in-law? We're staying. Proper precautions are being taken, of course. BRING IT, IRENE!
For orientation's sake, we are right at the border between North and South Carolina, closest to a little town called Calabash. Not directly in the storm's path right now, and hopefully will remain that way, but we should get some awesome weather!

I'm in NJ and right now it looks like we are probably just getting a really big rainstorm and that would be fine by me.

Looks like it's not going to make it as far west as Pittsburgh but be safe all you east coast bunnies.

I have a friend who stayed during one after numerous other storms being less than predicted. He was prepared - even with a little jonboat. He did live through it.

His main injury was when he contorted enough to bend through his legs to kiss his hiney goodbye. Everything was a loss in the town. He totally freaks out now when a storm is predicted - experience can be a harsh teacher.
Just saying...

NY folks, time to prepare is now. It really looks bad, services interrupted for a long time, competition for resources. If you can't leave, you'll have to be ready to stay. Get water, batteries, a battery phone charger. Islands are no place to be, and that's where you are.

I don't mean to be alarmist, but I feel pre-Katrina sick, and that was worse than I imagined.
