Wuh-wuh-wuh-Wednesday three-point update [More:]
1. They're filming Batman a couple streets over from me, so I'm heading over at lunch to peek. It's been fun so far to have this going on; I checked out the batmobiles last week.

2. I have no idea how to buy blinds, or why it's so hard for me. I have windows. I have measured them. I'm totally stuck on what the next step should be.

I'm pretty sure I've never looked at a set of blinds and said to myself, "Damn, those are nice blinds." What should I get, if I just want nice, basic blinds? Or where should I go? And is something I care not at all about so hard for me?

3. Apparently I get to choose between anxiety or insomnia, and my body has decided on insomnia this week. Bring it, body. We'll see who falls asleep at six on Friday. My money's on you.

How is your week so far, bunnies?
1. So. Very. Tired. of living in temp housing. We move into our house on/about 1 September. On the other hand, I'm in England.
2. If I can find an officer to do the honors, I'll be sworn in as an officer in the naval reserve, and at my age. I have moments of certainty and moments of wtf about it. I'm lousy at meeting people and putting it off has its advantages.
3. Our eldest has an interview with the headmaster of a tony British junior day school today. I'm hoping it goes off well.
3.5. I am very happy to be away from the clown show that is current US politics. I am, however, going to snap if some of my USian co-workers don't stfu with their fuckin' loony-ass, seditious crypto-fascist demogoguery.

1. Happy MetaChat is back up
2. Weird vibrating foot thingie going on (can feel it happening in foot, can't feel it with hand)
3. Feeling kinda meh this evening, dunno why

Blinds: do you have a Home Depot near you? They usually have a fairly decent selection that can be made to your measurements.

Deborah: Ribraty foot thing: Could be Restless leg syndrome stuff. Also be related to blood sugar/diabetes (not feeling it in the foot itself).

Not the end of the world but you should tell your Dr. I get this sort of thing too.

(I mean, feeling it in the foot and not the hand.)

1. Got caught in another two hour construction traffic jam on the way back from visiting mom tonight. Drank a large coffee on the way home. Bonus: I'm awake for Craig Ferguson, and he had the cursing white bunny tonight!

2. Brought Jon back some Merritt Canteen (double chili bacon cheeseburgers and brutal dogs with chili, cheese, and bacon). He's taking it all for lunch tomorrow. (There were crab cakes, but it was a long traffic jam.)

3. I ordered new bras and they've arrived. I'm a little afraid to open the package. According to the measurement instructions on the website for Linda's Bras, I'm a 42J. Seriously? J? That's ten letters into the alphabet (I counted on my fingers). Must be some new metric system or something.
posted by Pips 11 August | 00:44
(Okay, I'm definitely nowhere near a J. Something in my measuring or their chart went very, very wrong.)

punchtothehead: How about NextDayBlinds? They're not really next day, but I've been crazy happy with them and they have a bitchin warranty. And they come measure for you so if they dick up the blinds, they fix them for free.

1. Nervous about the end of this term (next Friday!) because I haven't gotten any grades back, or the draft of my final project with comments. Nothing. I'd really like to know just how screwed I am, because this class is awful. (It wasn't even on my list of alternatives, but I had to take it because everything else I had wanted to sign up for was either not offered or was canceled due to low enrollment.)

2. Had an AWESOME day at the gym yesterday. I can go up on a bunch of machines (and down in the case of one of them, which is a good thing) but of course, the gym now closes for 2 weeks. But they did get new ellipticals (since 2 of them were broken) and fixed the one weight machine that was busted too. I have to call the county rec department to see if I can use my card at another facility. I'm pretty sure I can, but I want to make sure before I trek out to another place (which is irritating, because my gym is 2 miles from my house).

3. It's quarterly cleaning time this weekend, so I get to scrub my floors and wash windows and whatnot. And I have Wicca class on Saturday! However, I'm not thrilled with having to plan things for my folks' anniversary since my mother dropped a bombshell on me last night regarding her relationship with pops. Not a divorce, yet, but something that she kinda put out in the open that I hadn't really realized.

01. Driving. I love driving. I've spent most of the last two weeks driving from TX to CA to see my baby brother. Haven't seen him or SIL in four years.

10. Trying to readjust to Central Time while still in Pacific time zone. Currently trying to chivvy the kids out of bed so we can do sunrise (or something close to it) on the Pacific.

11. Driving to Flagstaff today. Hopefully going to see the Petrified Forest tomorrow.

I wish I'd been able to do bunny meetups this year, but it was too short a vacation for me to really stop anywhere but SF.

1) Back to work this week - after an amazing 3 weeks of vacation. Hit 20 states in 20 days! We drove just over 12,500 kilometres (almost 8,000 miles!) and saw a ton of amazing things. I'd been dreaming of this road trip for years and was SO deliriously happy to make it happen. We didn't stop anywhere for too long, so like lysdexic, didn't get to see as many people as I might have liked, but godDAMN it was a great trip.

2) Still trying to get used to NOT getting up and driving 6-8 hours each day! It kinda sucks when you stay put after that long a period of moving!

3) The road trip also worked to nicely demonstrate that me and the newgirl (tm) still get along nicely. I like this.

1. It's the first Thursday in a while where I haven't gone to lunch with this guy on a strictly friend basis. I'm starting to think he doesn't function outside of talking about himself and things he's really familiar with and kind of lecturing about them in a manner that never relays much information. He's starting to get weird on me and I'm really wondering if I'm just done with him. I would like metachat to tell me to DTMFA.

2. I am undertaking an experiment. Could be wonderful, could be painful, could be nothing. This is why it is an experiment. Cross your fingers.

3. Argh, change, lots of change, and imminent. So far everything seems fine but I keep waiting for the big freak out or something to go horribly wrong.

1. I am getting married in 56 hours. Just a teeeeeeeeny bit anxious.

2. I am manicured, pedicured, massaged, moisturized, and exercised. I feel like a draft horse all gussied up for the county fair. Chomping at the bit to just get this thing going already.

3. Being held hostage at home for most of the day waiting for deliveries that require signatures. I'm hoping they will come early.

Responses below:

Eth - sounds like you SHOULD DTMFA - doesn't sound like much of a lunch date to me. Maybe it's time to let that one drift to the wind?

Occhi - Wooooo! I'm pretty excited for you two. Enjoy your day. I remember my wedding day fondly, though I was a bag o' nerves. It's a wonderful feeling to look around and see all the people you love wishing you well.

punch - Most of the time, any talk of Batman results in the theme song getting stuck in my head. Heh.

56 hours! Home stretch! You must be all kinds of ancy to get the show on the road.

Thanks, richat. Nice to hear the things with the girl are working well.

MonkeyButter: I have RLS and this isn't it. I am diabetic and have peripheral neuropathy and am working on getting some pain meds from the doc. I just had a bunch of blood tests to find out what might be causing it besides diabetes (follow-up with doc is Tuesday). Bro#1 also has peripheral neuropathy and he is NOT diabetic, so it really could be something else causing it. I hadn't thought of the vibrating being part of the neuropathy, but I bet you're correct.

56 hours! I remember feeling both completely exhausted and sorta vibrating with [excitement/the anxiety of throwing an enormous party]. This is a nice window: if something absolutely crucial pops up, you still have time to tackle it, but you're close enough to countdown that for anything non-crucial, you can just shrug and think, "Meh, too late." I found that very freeing!

Best wishes to you both, sweet occhiblu!

1. It smells like onions in here.

2. I've slept about five hours a night for --- well, too long to remember.

3. Excited for a party we're throwing this weekend.

sperose, this is such a simple chunk of how-to-be-a-grown-up you've delivered to me. I shouldn't just clean the floors whenever (because to me, "whenever" means roughly "never"); I should schedule a date and just plain DO IT on or about that date.

occhiblu, how fun! I feel like the last couple of months to your wedding has flown by, because I remember thinking when it was "oh ages away at the end of summer". Sigh. I love weddings. I want to go back in time and live mine again :)

1. doing laundry right now. My husband normally does laundry but I said I would today because he is going out tonight.

2. My paycheck was way too big on Tuesday. Got my paystub today in the mail and worked out why. Had to call my boss to tell him that I am giving about $800 back. He'll work it out. Not looking forward to next month's paycheck, but I'd rather deal with it all in one blow.

3. Just ordered a superhero cape for my daughter for her 3rd birthday next month. I've been giving this as a gift to a bunch of her little friends lately, and they have all been received with extreme enthusiasm. I got a dinosaur cutout on the back, because she is nuts for dinosaurs right now. Got told last night that there were Troodons and Northern Troodons, the latter of which had feathers. (well, she didn't say "latter"). It's all from Dinosaur Train, one of the two cartoons she's allowed to watch :)

Oh, a sad 3a. I just found out that a family friend who was struck by a car while biking back in February died yesterday. He's been in a vegetative state since then, with no hope of waking. So very sad.

Oh, gaspode, I'm so sorry. What a terrible stretch of time for his family and friends. (hug)

Exactly. Like coming home this evening, thinking, "When is the champagne supposed to be delivered? We're starting to cut it close," checking for the shipment confirmation, and discovering we didn't actually *order* the champagne so much as *pick out* the champagne, but Lo! There was still time to place a pick-up order at BevMo! And drive there! Twice! Because the first time I got there and discovered I had left my wallet at home!

It was, however, a very solvable problem, for which I am thankful. My wedding ring almost didn't get delivered to the right place today and that would have been a much bigger deal.

Best wishes to you both, sweet occhiblu!

Thank you! And thank you all for the good thoughts!
