Funny, small-world kinda moment:

I bought the piece last week via teh intertoobz. A couple of days later, the artist drops me an email. The printer he uses for giclée on canvas is right around the corner from me, so is it OK if he drops the print by the house in person? Sure, I say. We exchange info, and in the process get into a conversation about local politics, beer, Minecraft, and stuff. He's a nice guy. We email back and forth, just chatting. He says he'll come by Wednesday (today). Cool.

So today I answer the door wearing my MetaFilter t-shirt. He hands me the print and does a kind of double-take. "You're a MeFite?", he asks. Yup, I tell him. He grins. "I'm not on there much any more, but I am, too! I'm Hands of Manos!

Whoa! Small world! Turns out he's moved back to town after an extended sojourn away. So now he and his fiancee and Liz and I are going to go have dinner and drinks sometime soon.

Yay! New friends!

Yeah, Hands of Manos, I remember him. Definitely somebody I'd have a beer with.

I was reading the MeFi thread about meeting delmoi at a Wal-Mart, and I think this story is just as cool. Possibly cooler, because I now have new art to peruse and potential T-shirts to buy!
