I answered over there -- you should do it yourself! It's dead simple and not at all scary. Plus, you'll feel really cool once you've accomplished it, and you can tell all your friends that you just rewired a lamp.
I don't believe you! I mean, I did try that last year but there are all these stuck and rusted over pieces and nuts and bolts on this big old brass thing and I couldn't get a grip well enough to undo it, especially since Senator ate off the cord right at the bottom part so it's just frazzled ends and not an actual wire I can splice with anything.
WD-40 should loosen up any rusted connections. Let it soak in for a bit and tap the connectors with the handle of a screwdriver to break the seal. You can buy lengths of lamp cord at any hardware store. There are also clip on plugs that need no special wiring ability. The end of the cord that attaches to the actual socket is simply bare wires around screws.
My question was very dissimilar but apparently you have to be solving a problem with the info requested, which I did not know to be required, especially in light of some questions.
If you pay to have it done, it should be worth the money, all polished and cleaned.
