Anyone watching the FIFA Women's World Cup right now?
post by: gc at: 13:47 | 31 comments
I've tried, really I've tried to watch the Women's World Cup but, gahhhd, it's terrible, dreadful football compared with the Premiership, La Liga, Serie A, the Bundeslige, etc. I love football, but I can't watch women playing it, it just doesn't work for me.

I'm just happy to have more soccer.

I am! But I have to leave for work in about an hour, so I want be able to watch the finish. I'll just follow along on Twitter, I guess.

I still have never learned how to watch soccer, I just can't ever figure out what's going on.

I have it on but I don't know much about soccer.

Right now it's two very evenly-matched teams going at it. And lots of missed opportunities.

Yes, watching it and chewing on my fingernails. Go USA!

1 to 1, and in overtime. This is turning out to be an exciting game.

Also, ESPN is really pushing the earthquake angle with Japan. Lots of talk about destiny.

USA GOAL! 2 -1!

Now let's see if they can keep it together.

That was a cool goal.

oh crap

Wow. That was an incredible goal, too.

They still have a few minutes yet to bring it back!

RED CARD!

The first ever in a Women's World Cup final.

USA is up 11 women to 10.

Now we're in to penalty kicks.

oh I hate these endings
posted by gaspode 17 July | 16:14
Me too. I wish it could have ended at 2 - 1.

heh, well yeah. But I loathe shootouts.
posted by gaspode 17 July | 16:18
oh shit. two misses. can't come back from that.
posted by gaspode 17 July | 16:18
I'm totally with you on that. It's very anti-climatic.

And it's over. Japan is the winner.

Wow. Good game. They deserved it.

I put on Turning Japanese by the vapors on the jukebox at the bar that was showing the match.

No one was amused.

That was fun even not knowing what was going on.

What a heartbreaker.

Still pissed this game was on ESPN and not ABC (where I could've kept half an eye on it at work), but I refreshed this thread a bunch on my phone and followed along, so thanks, folks!

Here in Eugene, we are getting used to games which are on cable and should not be, and last-minute close losses (the NCAA football championship).

We watched it in a sort of bar sort of food court. . .since we do not have cable.

I watched it on ESPN3.com, through the iPad app (though I had started on my laptop). It was free, so that was nice.
