BUTTERMILK I had to pick up a HALF GALLON of buttermilk to fry the oysters in cause that was the only thing they had. What can I do with a half Gallon of Buttermilk as to not waste it?
DRINK IT. Buttermilk is so good.

You could also make biscuits with it, if you're baking-inclined. But I'd probably drink it.

Drink it? Gross. No way. (see, my state never went Dixie. It was all unincorporated and shit)

I'd just fry something else. Badass fried chickens or chicken fried steak. Soak the meat in the buttermilk for a few hours before you dredge it. You do have a well aged cast-iron pan handy, yes? Please say yes.

It's also really, really good for your skin. You can bathe in it or give yourself a facial with it. It's slightly acidic and will help sluff off dead skin.

Freeze it. Once thawed, it will have to be whisked or blended n order to make it smooth again, so freeze in quantities you're likely to use.

Oh, make oat waffles!

3/4 cup rolled oats
3 T butter (i just use half a stick)
1 1/2 cup flour
1 T sugar
1 1/2 t baking powder
pinch of salt
1/2 t baking soda
2 large eggs
1 cup buttermilk

Simmer oats with 1 1/4 cup of water for 3 minutes, stirring frequently. add butter and stir until melted. Combine dry ingredients. Beat eggs and buttermilk together and add to the oatmeal mixture. Add dry ingredients and stir just until well blended.

Like oatmeal in waffle form. Cures all grar and sadness immediately.

And buttermilk keeps for a long time past the date (2 weeks?). i just push it to the back of the fridge to make sure it keeps cold.

Freeze some, because buttermilk is awesome for baking. A 1/2 gallon is a lot. Really a lot. Make pancakes, and biscuits, fried chicken and more fried foods. Invite MeCha friends over for breakfast, dinner, and after-nap snacks.
