15 July 2011

FRIDAY POINTS! I'll be needing specifics on these. . .[More:]

3 points for every deceased pet currently residing underground in your gardern/yard/property.

1 point for every time you have been served with legal papers of some sort.

4 points for every time you have been incarcerated, even briefly.

2 points for every time in 2011 that you have gone and listened to live music.

3 points for each country you have lived in as your legal residence.

4 points for every spatula, of any kind, that you own. Cake servers do not qualify.

Tie Breaker: 1 point for every Grateful Dead track in your digital library. Not Ratdog, not Garcia Band, etc. Had to be the full-blown Dead. (I do not need a listing of each track, thank you.)

This contest closes at 5:15 pm, Pacific Daylight Time.
3 points for living in the US as my legal residence.
6 spatulas x 4 is 24 (Gah, I need to tell my mother to quit buying them.)

Total: 27. No Grateful Dead tracks here.

I've seen like 6 concerts so far, no including going to places where live bands happen to be playing. So 12-18.
Oh, and four spatulas. So that's 16. And I guess one point for "USA! USA!"?
posted by Eideteker 15 July | 09:20
Three rocks concerts so far this year (Decemberists, Tom Tom Club and Bright Eyes), two ballets with live music and one opera: 12

USA: 3

Spatulas, one steel, one plastic: 8

Good Old Grateful Dead Tracks: >100
posted by octothorpe 15 July | 09:26
OK octothorpe. . .depending on other scores, you may be called upon to give a more specific count of Dead tracks.

0 points for every deceased pet (I've only lived here six years and Dog is alive & kicking)

1 point for legal papers of some sort (massive dispute with old condo board in Atlanta)

4 points for incarceration (ex-husband had me arrested, spent the night in jail and was released when the judge laughed at him in the morning. Divorced the bastard, pronto.)

3 points for live music (one symphony and two friend's bands)

3 points for each country (only USA)

3 x 4 points for every spatula (one rigid nylon, one floppy nylon, one steel for the grill)

17 points for Grateful Dead tracks

So, 40. That's two Points games in a row I haven't utterly sucked at. O course, I'm not too proud of that arrest thing, but it kinda wasn't my fault, except in choosing a dipshit first husband.

Pets: 1 (at my old place in NZ. Does that count?) so 3 points.
Legal papers: 0
Incarcerated: 0
Live music: Oh man, I *know* I've been to more than one show this year but Archers of Loaf is the only one I can remember. Oh, wait! Decemberists! And there was one the week before that but I forget what it was. hrm. Well, that's 4 points.
Countries: 2 countries so 6 points.
1 spatula, 4 points.

Total: 17 points.

Tie breaker: 0

0 points for deceased pets.

0 points for legal papers.

0 points for incarceration.

2 points for seeing P-Funk! WHOOOOO!

3 points for one country.

64 points for spatulas, of any kind, that you own: Oh YOU ASKED FOR IT. That's four points times sixteen spatulas --- plastic, silicon, stainless, carbon steel, and so on. (This is only counting the kitchen spatulas, which I did go and count by hand. If I include the painting, craft, and hardware spatulas, we will be here all day.)

Oh, wait --- I forgot the minis. 20 x 4 = 80. Eighty points for spatulas. I really should consider clearing out some space in the kitchen.

Total: 85.

Tie Breaker: 0 points for Grateful Dead track in digital.

We'll count the NZ grave gaspode.

I included the incarceration thing because I once spent a night in jail for unpaid dog tickets. A funny story, but, upon reflection, incarceration usually isn't.

I also over-weighted the spatulas, but so be it.

Yeah, I'm feeling a little weird about suddenly being Spatula Lady.

0 = dead pets. Not saying there aren't dead pets in the yard, just none of them are mine. The people who lived in this house before us though were the type to bury their dead pets (if for no other reason than soil enrichment), so I suspect we've got a dead Fluffy or Spot or two or four somewhere back there.

0 = never been served with legal papers.

0 = never been incarcerated. My 18 year old self wanted to get herself arrested at some point, but alas, that never came to be. My nearly 40 year old self sighs in relief.

4 = saw two shows, one a high school talent show, the other a showcase, both benefits to raise money for a family facing some hard times.

9 = I rock the this one. Three countries of legal residence. Not at the same time, of course.

12 = I love my spatulas.

Tie Breaker: 1 point for every Grateful Dead track in your digital library = 2 points. If we counted all media forms, I would have about 100 points. I still have a bunch of old bootleg tapes kicking around in my attic (I know, horrible storage place, but I don't even have anything to listen to them on, and damn if I don't even smoke the Bud anymore anyways....)

So that gives me a total of:

27 points! Not bad. Personal best.

9 points for deceased pets (2 dogs, 1 cat)
0 for legal papers
0 for incarceration
2 for live music (LCD Soundsystem's final show)
3 for country of residence
12 points for 4 spatulas

Total = 26 points, w/ 0 Grateful Dead tracks for the tiebreaker

6 points for two chickens. I didn't bury either of my cats in the yard because I know I won't live in this house forever and I couldn't bear the thought of burying them there and then moving away.

0 points (knock wood), 0 incarcerations (knock wood).

0 concerts this year that I remember.

3 USAs.

12 spatula points.

I know I have some Grateful Dead albums, but I appear not to have ripped them. 0 points.

21 total

BUT!

3 points for each country you have lived in as your legal residence.

Latvia

19 points. Whoo!

I'm claiming my pet (cat) from a previous backyard and another (turtle) from a still previouser one. Served with papers many times and can't count. In summary, there are the divorces, the violations of non-disclosure, various legal rental related things.
But never incarcerated. Went to see tUnEyArDs last night. They were great! We play a lot of live music here which doesn't require "going" anywhere. USA is (so far) my only country though I threaten to leave it regularly. My son tells me that it's just that I don't know the bad stuff about the other countries yet. 5 spatulas at least (not counting the cake server which I use as a spatula when the others are dirty.) I have grateful dead stuff in digital somewhere but I haven't played it in so long I can't be sure where it is or even if it still exists.

Total = 33.
posted by Obscure Reference 15 July | 12:34
06 - USA and Canada
28 - 7 spatulas

34 points

No Grateful Dead, no ungrateful dead either

I am so not going to win this round!

Dead pets: Nope, stopped doing that last time we moved. 0

Service with legal papers: Well, it's part of my job. But in terms of service on me personally versus as a representative for someone else, 0

Every time you have been incarcerated: Assuming my visits to jails and prisons, again as part of my job, doesn't count (as no one has locked me in for longer than it took to open the next door): 0

Every time in 2011 that you have gone and listened to live music: One excellent Johnny Clegg concert so far this year, that's it. 2 points

Each country I have lived in as legal residence: USA! USA! USA! (And only USA. . .): 3 points

Every spatula we own: We have one metal ones and at least three scratch proof ones. So 16 points.

So: total before tiebreaker is 21 points.

Tie Breaker: Grateful Dead tracks: 6. Not really a Dead Head.
posted by bearwife 15 July | 14:26
Hmm, didn't realize the floppy spatulas to scrape out dishes counted. Geez, we have a lot of those and I'm not home right now. I'll say 3 but I know I'm under counting. So I'll say my total is 33 before tiebreaker.
posted by bearwife 15 July | 14:28
Deceased Pets - zero. We used to do this (3 that I can think of) out at my dad's workshop over on the west side of town, but our last three that have died have all been cremated.

legal papers of some sort. - Nope.

been incarcerated, even briefly. - Just once (hey someone's gotta fess up to it). Spent the night at a suburban jail when I was...23, I think? Something like that. Other than the $340 fine, it wasn't all that bad. They even brought me a honey bun in the morning. So 4 points for that!

live music. - 4 so far, I believe. Screeching Weasel, William Elliott Whitmore, Mountain Sprout, and a local outdoor summer symphony thing. There's 8.

country you have lived in as your legal residence. - Just the U.S.

4 points for every spatula, of any kind, that you own. - Just went and counted and found 7. One wooden, one silicon, 2 plastic and three for grilling. - 28 pts.

Tie Breaker: 1 point for every Grateful Dead track in your digital library. - None. I have a bunch of Dead Kennedys, though. I mean, that sorta counts, right?

Total: 43 points, 0 tie-breakers.

I'd like to get a ruling about deceased pets that are residing on my property, but not underground.

Also, how should I score the DMB Caravan? We traveled to the concert site three times, but saw eight different shows.

3 - USA
56 - Spatulas, we have 14
** Total: I have no idea!

Tie Breaker: 36 digital Grateful Dead songs

OK youngergirl. . .state your case and prepare yourself for some dead pet justice here, either way.

We have three gliders, my hedgehog, and a mouse in our freezer. They all passed away earlier this year, and we want to bury them at the BF's parents' property up north, but couldn't when the ground was frozen and haven't been able to get up there since it's thawed.
posted by youngergirl44 15 July | 15:47
You keep dead pets in the freezer. . .far be it from me to cross you. You get the points. Just stay where I can see you.

Revised calculation:
15 - pets
22 - Girl Talk (x3), O.A.R, DMB (x3), Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds, G. Love & Special Sauce, Kid Cudi, Michael Franti & Sprearhead
3 - USA
56 - Spatulas, we have 14
** Total: 96

Tie Breaker: 36 digital Grateful Dead songs

I need to extend this 'til tomorrow morning. My net presence until the end of today will be very spotty, if at all.

So if any of ya want to thaw out any pets to buy, you have over night to get it done.

+ 0 (not at this residence)
+ 0 (never been served)
+ 0 (never been locked up)
+ 44 (Rinaldo, Turandot, Dialogues of the Carmelites at Pittsburgh Opera; Boris Godunov and Lucia di Lammermoor at the Met; Beethoven at Avery Fisher; a concert of Irish hymns; Bach vespers; Rachmaninoff Vespers; a modern woodwinds ensemble; six symphony concerts in Pittsburgh; two rehearsal nights of the Pittsburgh Banjo Club; three of the Sunday outdoor concerts at Mellon Park; one jazz concert at the Bryant Street Festival; a few others but those are the ones I remember right now)
+ 3 (just this country)
+ 24 (three pastel plastic silicon ones, two black ones, one metal)
= 71 + 0 (no Dead)
posted by notquitemaryann 15 July | 17:38
If youngergirl can have frozen pets, how about cremated pets? I have two (RIP Sancho and Diego) in urns.

If so, I have 40 points.

And I still won't win. *sulks*

OK. . youngergirl44 has this points contest in the freezer! Congratulations.

I am weirdly delighted not to have won on spatula-power alone. Go, youngergirl44!
