Midnight in Paris In Woody Allen's new movie Midnight in Paris there is a scene in which Gil buys a Cole Porter record in a charming little booth. On the wall in back of the booth is a magnificent painting of a young boy in a sailor suit. Does anyone know who painted this wonderful portrait. Is it painting by Monet of his son?
Is it this one?

If so, it's a portrait of Jean Monet.

I haven't seen the film, but it sound like you might be describing Franz Xavier Winterhalter's 1846 watercolor of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (eventually Edward VII). Did it look like this?

I thank both of you for answering me, but neither painting is the one in the movie.Although these paintings are excellent, they are not as wonderful as the one in the movie.

Probably not it since this painter is Italian. I thought I saw a French name. Good luck with your search.

Maybe it's Egon Schiele's "Boy in a Sailor Suit." Woody Allen might consider him a kindred spirit, after a fashion.

There are a couple Renoirs that might fit the bill, though "wonderful" really has me casting about.

Macduff had posted a 2nd thread about this painting, instead of a comment in this thread, so I'm moving it over here:

No one yet has identified the wonderful portrait. While your suggestions are in the right time period you must see the movie to identify the painting. The film features many wonderful paintings by Picasso, the lily ponds by Monet, a marvelous Renoir, appearances by Degas, Gaugain, Mattise, Toulouse-Lautrec, Dali,
Man Ray, and the statue of The Thinker by Rodin, but I want to discover who painted the beautiful painting of the boy in the little outdoor record shop. Macduff

you must see the movie to identify the painting

In that case, I retract my suggestions.
