Did you ever read GoodDog Carl? This is a real life story of a Rottweiler taking good care of a baby.
I love my rottweiler. She is the best dog ever. Thanks for posting the story, theora55, all too often, you hear crappy stories about rotties who have maimed and killed people, when they are actually the sweetest damn dogs you will ever meet. My girl is currently asleep on the other side of the couch where I sit. I've got my toes tucked under her substantial butt and I think she's dreaming about chasing bunnies and squirrels.
Heh I just bought a board book edition of Good Dog Carl for a friend's baby's first birthday. Partly this was because the friend likes cats more than dogs - I am evil - but partly it was because Good Dog Carl is one of my favorite books ever. I love Rotties. Granted, one did hurt my daughter badly - but totally by accident. She came bombarding in from the side during a game of tag on the beach and all 80 pounds of her arriving at speed managed to dislocate my daughter's knee, no harm intended. Yes, it behooves you to get out of the way if one is running - like trucks, they take a while to stop. ;-) Lovely dog. My cousin had three: wonderful enormous comfie dogs like lounge chairs.
Yes! I just found one the other day going through a box of old books, actually. It was the pop-up book with all the pull tabs and moving parts, where the dog takes the baby all over the house while the mom's gone and makes a huge mess before cleaning it up just in time. My favorite when I was little was always the page with the two of them dolled up in makeup and beads in front of a huge "mirror" (really just a circle of plastic over their drawn reflections) where pulling the tab just made them blink. Hilarious.
