So I'm Making Dinner Today Yeah, it's Father's Day and all that, but I feel like cooking.

It will be Tatziki, pita chips, teriyaki chicken on the barbecue and a lemon curd tart. All from scratch.

Anybody else making something special for a dad, or a dad making something for the family?
Big pot of black beans over here! Trying to use up everything in the cupboard. Found an old bottle of tequila, so I added some to the beans. Also, we did shots. SHOTS! WOOOOOOOO!

Just finished this part:

Ingredients

5 egg yolks
1 cup sugar
4 lemons, zested and juiced
1 stick butter, cut into pats and chilled

Directions

Add enough water to a medium saucepan to come about 1-inch up the side. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Meanwhile, combine egg yolks and sugar in a medium size metal bowl and whisk until smooth, about 1 minute. Measure citrus juice and if needed, add enough cold water to reach 1/3 cup. Add juice and zest to egg mixture and whisk smooth. Once water reaches a simmer, reduce heat to low and place bowl on top of saucepan. (Bowl should be large enough to fit on top of saucepan without touching the water.) Whisk until thickened, approximately 8 minutes, or until mixture is light yellow and coats the back of a spoon. Remove promptly from heat and stir in butter a piece at a time, allowing each addition to melt before adding the next. Remove to a clean container and cover by laying a layer of plastic wrap directly on the surface of the curd. Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.

We are having a ground lamb, rice, carrot, onion kind of thing, with tzatziki as well! and pita bread. It's OK. I find lamb a bit greasy, but my husband loves it and it's fathers day, so...

Ha! Another tatziki fan. I'm still draining the greek yogurt but will start the cucumber process shortly. This is such fun. :-)

Dad and I went out to dinner in Chelsea- he had seared tuna and crabcakes and I had watermelon and mozzarella salad and truffle fries. It was good!
I think he liked the odd variety of books, books-on-cd, and orange juicer pitcher me and my sister got him.
It was kind of funny presenting them to him without her, because she is out of the country and it was clear that I did all the work, and he was joking "how did she weasel her name on the card?" but I explained that we both did the choosing (slight lie).

Mrs. O took me and our son and his girlfriend out to a little french restaurant where we ate way too much. I had a very rare steak, half of which is now in my fridge.

Son did a lot of furniture moving for us this afternoon which was very helpful. Our house almost looks livable now.

Well dinner was a hit. But the lemon curd is taking a bit longer that anticipated to set up. But it is, slowly. We'll call it breakfast. Happy Today to all.

I made pork chops (husband loves pork chops) with caramelized onions with rosemary and garlic, roasted asparagus, garlic mashed potatoes, and crescent rolls.

The kids took me out for sushi and beer. Can't beat that.

No fathers in the house, but I made a lobster risotto with grilled lobster tail that turned out excellent, accompanied by grilled asparagus and an arugula salad.

I cooked my own dinner today. But, that's okay, because I like to cook. Maple-glazed salmon on the grille. And I got brussels sprouts! A simple meal. I prefer to keep the day low-key.

We had a Fatherless Day at my place: my widowed sister and dadless niece (home from college!) came over for dinner. We had peanut noodle salad with fried sesame tofu and fried sweet potatoes, a salad of avocado & cucumber with sweet miso dressing, and blueberry upside-down cake.

Happy belated father's day to all of the Metachat dads!

I made "Barcelona Chicken" and "Green onion noodle salad" from the Weber Real Grilling cookbook. The marinade for the chicken was supposed to have basil, but I forgot to get some, so I just used some mint. Couldn't even tell the mint was in there, really.

The noodle salad was different; It was an asian-inspired thing with peanut butter, orange zest, and oyster sauce. I think i put too much orange zest in there, but it was still pretty good.

I'm really glad the previous owner of the house left their Weber kettle grill behind; I don't know if it's something I would have bought on my own, but I can definitely see why everyone loves them so much.
