10 Classic Moments in Rock Concert Films - Or, How I Wasted A Saturday Evening
Pretty incredible. . .During "Sunshine of Your Love," Clapton somehow put his jacket on in the middle of his solo, and then had it off again at the end of the song.

Nice. Far from a wasted evening! We have some different favorite moments from the films, but great list. As I was scrolling I was getting concerned I didn't see the Who, was glad it was there. Also glad to see the Talking Heads make honorable mention.

My favorite concert film is Urgh! A Music, so here's a little XTC.

These are not so much my favorite moments as they are the best clips that fit together in a playlist. Although I am not crazy about the musical portion of "Psycho Killer", I do think that the entire performance is one of the best pieces of concert filmmaking we have. Also, apparently I am in the minority, but I think the split-screen work in Woodstock works very well on the small screen of a computer or phone with its combining different angles and close-ups.

Nice!

Now I want to add to the fun.

Not from concert films necessarily, but a few of my favorite live clips culled from the YouTubez:

Patti Smith Group, "Horses", live in Stockholm 1976

Black Sabbath, "War Pigs", live in Paris 1970

Iggy and the Stooges, "The Passenger", live in Manchester 1977

Bad Brains, "Big Take Over", live at CBGBs 1982

Hmm. Now that I look at the list, I see I that I must judge a clip by the charisma of the frontman -- Patti, Ozzy, Iggy, and HR. When vintage Ozzy is the worst of the bunch, that's a pretty good mix.

Youtube has a lot of nuggets to be found. The quality of some of the bootleg video I found last night is astounding. The biggest disappointment so far has been the poor sound quality of 80s hardcore videos.

These are great. I ended up giving my 8 year old a history lesson about Jimi Hendrix, Woodstock, and the Vietnam war while watching The Star Spangled Banner video. I'll be watching a few more of these tonight.

Floyd at Pompeii is just amazing. I can't really listen to anything that they did after Meddle but in 1971 they were astounding.
