A great, great record. Marvin was just full of music, man, so full of soul it's just... damn, what can you say? He was one of the giants.
Have you heard this? Isolated bass and vocals from the song. so gorgeous, it'll give ya chills. And while we're at it, here's the soloed vox from Let's Get It On.
Oh man. About 22 or so years ago my roommate became hopelessly addicted to that album. She played it all day for weeks and I went from Marvin Gaye? Motown? Soul? It's so, like, old. Like, it's not even slightly punk! It does not even sound one thing like the Psychedelic Furs or Bauhaus! to Do you think you could make me a tape? I love this song so much. This just goes - through my heart. Play the song about the pallet on the floor again. And those songs still go through my head every so often; more, frankly, than Bauhaus.
Whoa, weird. Why do I have it in my head that there was a version of Make Me a Pallet on Your Floor by Marvin Gaye on that album when there isn't one and there isn't any record of one? But I swear to you that I've heard it and it exists, just, where? It's intrinsically linked to Marvin Gaye in my mind (granted, my mind is often wrong, still) and googling is not finding it.
