what song? [youtube] Asking random New Yorkers with headphones on what song they are listening to.
Damn, New Yorkers! Y'all are letting me down. Across the board, that's some pretty mainstream, big-name, unadventurous, non-idiosyncratic stuff. And most of you had to check to see what it even was.
yeah flapjax I noticed that. I think it's not cause they don't recognize the song when they're listening to it but rather than they don't actually 'listen' to the song while they're walking around so they have to check just to know what was playing
"Listening to what? Oh, these? There's nothing playing. I just put them in so people think I can't hear them. Also, at least until now, it kept people from asking me questions."
Actually, I consider listening to music on good headphones (ones that shut out the outside world) while walking around Manhattan to be dangerous and irresponsible. I try to minimize distractions in places with heavy and sometimes unpredictable pedestrian, bike, and auto traffic. I may one day be hit by a bus, but it won't be because I didn't hear it coming.
Now I want to try this in Atlanta. I could probably skew the results because I have an idea what kind of music I'd get in various parts of town, but there'd always be the element of surprise.
