Bandcamp! I love bandcamp. I've started buying more and more of my music here. The problem with the internet is that anyone can put their music up and it's hard finding good things. I mean, the difficulty of distribution used to sort of place a threshold of quality or novelty which surely left good stuff languishing, but it at least did some minimal quality control. I'm finding that bandcamp is good for that, plus you can hear the *whole album* before purchase, but there's still too much to sort through! Any recs from the good folks here?[More:]

I've been listening to Dessa, Stripmall Architecture, Still Corners and the Curve back-catalog today.
If you're into ambient-ish stuff, definitely check out the Minecraft Volume Alpha soundtrack by C418. Parts of it are very Brian Eno-like, and you don't need to know or care about Minecraft to appreciate it.

From your recs, wow, Still Corners is very cool! Stripmall Architecture is interesting, as well.

Ooh, also another good one that a friend turned me on to recently: The Fierce & The Dead.

A friend of mine is a musician whom I un-biasedly think is very talented: Fauxny.

Also, I found Kyle Andrews by chance. If you are in the US and watch television, you might recognize his song "Bombs Away" as the song from the "Late Night Cheeseburger" Doritos commercial.

I liked Stripmall Arch. better when they were Halou, but they're doing some interesting stuff now and the new incarnation is growing on me. Thanks for the recs, guys!

Another thing I love about Bandcamp is the range of formats. Our server at home is all FLAC files and so I still end up buying most stuff as an actual CD because Amazon only sells MP3. If (as I occasionally do) I buy the disk, I get an immediate download link, too, at Bandcamp. I just wish they had a more robust search system. Like multiple tags, or parameters like "no vocal" or "whole albums only". There's a band there called "Blouse" who only has a bunch of singles and it's irritating to have to open a dozen windows and hit play a dozen times!

Ha! You can also get the Plants vs. Zombies soundtrack from Bandcamp.
