I don't know why I never visited National Geographic before today, but their entire PotD series is like a slice of triple-death chocolate cake.

You can do a lot of manipulation without ever going near photoshop.

NatGeo has a lot of great content, good blogs, etc. They are terrific, as you might imagine.

Thanks for posting this, though, I didn't know they were doing a Big Picture-type thing, and duh, they are the perfect people to be doing it. NatGeo is THE iconic source for worldwide, compelling cultural/geographic photography and has been for longer than anyone else that's still around. Makes great sense for them to do this project!

This makes for an interesting desktop. Open it full size, if you can, for the greatest impact.
