What did/will you have for lunch? [More:]I didn't bring a lunch to work today, so I went to the cafeteria to buy a sandwich, only there were approximately four thousand one hundred and thirty-six people packed inside and spilling out into the hallway, so instead I walked up the hill to the hippie health food store and bought these Thai Dumplings. Tasty, only I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't have eaten them all at once, because my stomach is starting to feel rather unhappy . . . .
Salad: chopped red leaf lettuce, dried cranberries, diced hard boil egg, diced mushrooms, diced green bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, feta cheese, sliced almonds, Mrs. Dash and dried cilantro as seasonings, and dressing - simply a mix of olive and lime juice with olive oil. My salad-making rule of thumb is that I have to have at least 6 different things in it to make me forget that I'm basically eating what a goat eats.

By the way, the best As Seen On TV product I ever bought was the Vidalia Chop Wizard - it makes making my salads in advance (i.e. chopping all my veggies) for the next 3 days FUN.

Ugh - I mean a mix of lime and lemon juice mixed with olive oil.

I had a piece of artisan cheese that I bought from the farmer's market last week, and a pear. I'd been really ill twice last week with horrible gastric upsets that I'd thought were caused either by chicken I hadn't cooked through or maybe at an outside chance by this cheese. I was pretty sure it was the chicken and that (twice) I hadn't cooked it properly. But eating just a couple of ounces of the cheese today made it clear that the chicken was innocent. All I can say is thank goodness I'm working from home today. :-(

Pizza. Wednesdays we always have a speaker for lunch and they bring in lunch. They usually cycle through Pizza, Chinese, Indian, Peruvian and Mexican take-out; this week it was Pizza.

I had a jalapeno string cheese and some triscuits and apple sauce, with tea to wash it down with.

heyallie, that salad sounds great. I like your rule and think I'll adopt it.

Early lunch: protein shake.
Lunch: Zucchini-ricotta-spinach thingy, Girl Scout cookie (I can't believe I still have some; this is a personal record.)
Late lunch: maybe some peanut butter, maybe a bowl of cereal. Maybe the two mashed together.

For Hospital Week they're giving a free lunch to employees. I had a hamburger, baked beans, and potato salad. I also got a free golf umbrella.

Lunch special fajitas that my coworkers are bringing back from their lunch out. I'm staying behind to watch the phones. I'd really rather eat heyallie's salad. And a Girl Scout cookie.

I had breakfast (Raisin Bran) about an hour ago. I may have a couple hard boiled eggs in a couple hours.

Last night, I put together a chicken/chickpea/carrot kurma dish, which I will be eating for the rest of the week with rice. It was quite good, though I accidentally tipped it on the floor before I was done. At least I had almost finished. Also on the menu: carrots, apple, pineapple. Wish I had put a cookie in the bag. I'm aching for some carbs. Sometimes all the fruit in the world just isn't enough, you know?

Mushroom veggie burger on a pub bun with Tillamook cheddar. I have a few buns to use up from cooking out last night (I never seem to use them before they go bad). Good, filling, and pretty low calorie.

Maybe a salami sandwich if I do eat lunch. I have an eggplant to either stuff or deep-fry for supper.

I was happy to find an egg salad sandwich at the caff, but it was made quite a while ago, and the tomato was reallllly slimy. They're sposed to say what's in it, and I know to avoid things w/ tomato, but it just said egg salad. 'Course I ate it anyway.

Dinner. What should it be? Maybe stirfry veg., and pasta. I have summer squash and mushrooms.

I had half a giant burrito left over from dinner last night- it had rice, black beans, guacamole, hot sauce, cheese, and lettuce.

Prepared stuff from Wegmans -- chicken salad and sesame kale with carrots. Their prepared foods are usually surprisingly good.

Went to the barbecue place around the corner with a couple coworkers. Chicken sandwich, potato salad and greens. Also hot sauce.

We rotate three or four regular places. Today: Qdoba for a chicken quesadilla with sour cream and guac on the side. I ate three of the four triangles.

Elizard and I had an appointment on The Other Side of The World this morning, so when we were through, we realized that the trendy new fancy burger joint we'd been meaning to try was between us and home, so we went there.

OMG DEELISHUS

I had a "burger" of ground lamb with coriander, feta cheese, tomato, greens, and taziki sauce. She had a "burger" of minced chicken, pattied and fried, with pimiento cheese and curried bread and butter pickles. We split an order of veg, which was (get this) caramelized brussels sprouts with a ginger and bacon vinaigrette. OMG OMG OMG these were SO GOOD. And for dessert, I had a Krispy Kreme milkshake which was better in idea than execution, and elizard had an awesome Nutella and burnt marshmallow milkshake. *drool*

It was WAY more than I wanted to spend for lunch, but it sure was good.

Faculty Senators ate courtesy of the Provost today ... lemon chicken, diced zucchini/summer squash, field greens salad, roasted potatoes and coconut squares. And I had a glass of wine, so the walk back to my office was pleasantly fuzzy.

I wish I'd had what BOP had, but I had a perfectly nice lunch of salami, cheese, olives, bread, a little bit of pasta and zucchini, and some baba ganoush.

But now it's dinner time, I gotta go! Goat curry and rice omg so excited!

I had a turkey sandwich with provolone and a handful of almonds.

I, uh, I guess I forgot to have lunch. Huh.

I did make a killer dinner, though. I'm staying with my mother (who's having some mobility problems) for a few days, so I played Pantry Roulette: the game where I make the best meal I can from whatever someone has kicking around their fridge, freezer, and shelves.

We had soft polenta topped with shrimp, pan-roasted tomatoes, and peas in a wine-saffron-shrimp-broth sauce, and a salad of cucumbers and red onions marinated in orange-curry dressing served over chiffonaded spinach. Hell yes!
