What's your favorite fast food meal? [More:]I love Chick-fil-A and I like regular cheeseburgers and fries from McDonalds and Burger King. I don't go to Chick-fil-A that often because it's not in my immediate radius. I try to stay away from cheeseburgers and fries because I can't stomach them that often.

My most favorite fast food meal of all is the Smoked Turkey and Jack Cheese sandwich on Cracked Wheat Bread with Southwest Mayonnaise from 7-11 with Lays Salt and Vinegar chips on the side. I get this sandwich/chip combo about once a month. If you have a 7-11 you must try it.
I eat Chipotle's steak burrito with guacamole embarrassingly frequently.

I don't eat fast food that much these days, but when I do I most often end up getting the classic Big Mac Meal. Medium sized, eat in, Diet Coke and ketchup.

Trying to remember the last time I had fast food from a chain. Probably a 1/4 Pounder and fries from McDs somewhere on Route 80 while on a road trip to NJ. Can't say it's a favorite.

Crispy chicken deluxe meal at Wendy's. If I'm really hungry I'll add a value crispy chicken sandwich. Ends up being less than $5.

Chicken at this KFC in Cairo. It was so quiet on the day I was there, all you could hear were sounds of food prep.

I have a soft spot for MOS Burger in Japan (the regular Mos Burger, a burger slathered with chili and topped with a slice of tomato is truly inspired), but people keep telling me it isn't fast food because it takes five minutes.

But Wendy's also takes five minutes. I used to go there with some frequency for their grilled chicken sandwich, they'd always look at me like I was crazy because I declined to "make it a meal" with fries and soda pop. But it was the cheapest non-street meat I could find close to my midtown Manhattan job, and healthier than my other choices.

I liked the cherry pies at Mickey D's back when they were still deep-fried (in beef tallow, presumably).

There's so much I love! I get Chick-Fil-A whenever I'm in Florida- love their chicken sandwich. My usual go-to is a McDonald's kids meal with 6 chicken nuggets. And I've had a hankering lately for a Burger King Original Chicken Sandwich. Mmmmmm, fast food chicken.

I used to love love love The Whopper. Nowadays I only get about 1 a year. The last one I had was only so-so. It's the only thing at Burger Kind I like. Of course, I need a Root Beer to go with it.

I still love the Egg McMuffin, but they are so small for the price, and I watch my money these days. I indulge sometimes when they're on sale.

There's also Wendy's Spicy Chicken Fillet which I like a lot. I love their fries too. But there is no Wendy's near me, so I'm not tempted too often.

I used to love going to Burgerville for the burger and chocolate shake. But I'm 3000 miles away from that now.

I wish they would go back to deep fried. I have no idea why McDonalds decided to make these pies "healthy" and "baked". (Maybe pressure from CSPI?)

My favorite meal is a regular Chick Fil-A and a chicken salad sandwich with a large waffle fries, plenty of mayonnaise packets for said fries (Chick Fil-A mayo seems to have a bit of sugar added), and a large lemonade. Chick Fil-A makes great lemonade. I don't however have a very accessible Chick Fil-A right now.

Currently accessible: Popeye's spicy 3-Piece Snack (incl biscuit). I think it's $2.99 incl a small drink, raspberry tea.

I avoid most of it but I do like a Subway veggie sub or sometimes Spicy Italian, and occasionally we'll go to Chipotle and I like a black bean burrito bowl, with chicken sometimes.

Oh, they were great, like an apple egg roll. Don't like the new one's at all.

I can't remember when the last time was that I actually had fast food, but my favorites include:

chicken+rice+cheese burrito from Chipotle,

12pk nuggets+fries+lemonade from Chik-fil-a (before I learned about their religiousness, which has sadly turned me off of them),

1 hamburger+1 cheeseburger (no pickles on either and smushed flat)+small fries+large sweet tea from McDonalds,

or plain spicy chicken sandwich+fries+Mr. Pibb from Wendys.

I haven't been in a McDonalds for a long time, but are you telling me they've changed the hot apple pies? This is the part where I turn green and go "GRAR! FISHBIKE SMASH!"

Ahem. Anyway...

Back to the question at hand. It's a surprisingly tough one for me to answer, because I realized I've gone off most fast food places lately. Not that I'm eating healthier now (far from it), I just find most of the places I used to like have cheaped out so much that the food is no longer enjoyable to eat even as a totally unhealthy once-in-a-while kind of treat. So I make my own now, instead, and they're probably even more unhealthy than anything I could buy.

However, I still do like the occasional super-size assorted cold cuts submarine from good old Mr. Submarine. Which they now just call Mr. Sub, for some reason having to do with marketing. I refuse to comply.

Man, this is a grumpy-sounding comment, isn't it?

The only fast food I eat, apart from packaged sandwiches which don't count in my mind, for some reason, is proper fish & chips from an old-fashioned chip shop. I love it and only eat it about once a year for that reason. Always slightly regret it afterwards, though, unless I was REALLY hungry beforehand.

Fish & chips tastes best when you've a) queued for a long time to get it freshly made (it still sort of counts as fast food though), and b) eat it on the seafront, preferably in a howling gale.

When I was 11 and a picky vegetarian on a western road trip with my family, I lived on Egg mcMuffins, apple pies, and McD's fries alone.

I can't remember the last time I've had any of those. I feel lucky to live in a place where I have so many other options. I am sure if I lived somewhere else I'd have a better answer to this.

I don't eat fast food and, thankfully it's not as ubiquitous as it is in the States, or I'm sure I'd be tempted. I am partial, though, to the egg & cheese McMuffin and the McFlurry, which I have maybe once or twice a year.

I do like a burrito, though, and we now have a Chipotle in London, but it's about 10 minutes walk away from Goodge St where there are a couple of much better and cheaper burrito places (independents), so given the choice, I'd walk to one of those instead.

When I had to rent a car to drive down to L.A., I had my first access to DRIVE-THRU fast food in over a year. And to me Drive-Thru = Fast Food. (BTW, in the City of San Luis Obispo, there's a law against drive-thru anything - dirty hippies. It's why In-N-Out is in Atascadero and Arroyo Grande but not there. But I digress.)

Anyway, I enjoyed my favorite In-N-Out, Double Meat NO Cheese Animal Style, but even more enjoyed L.A.'s Evil Twin to In-N-Out, Original Tommy's, with it's burgers well-smothered in a not-too-spicy-but-way-too-greasy chili. Under that chili, it doesn't matter the quality of the other ingredients, but the onions are chopped large and tomato sliced thick and they are good. On their thick-cut french fries, it's the very definition of Chili Cheese Fries.

But the second-best Chili Cheese Fries are from Del Taco, for using crinkle-cut fries and adding sour cream and finely chopped onions and tomatoes. I have long called Del Taco "Taco Bell Done Right", because they put tomatoes in their basic tacos, their taco meat is a LOT more like the ground beef YOU might cook up, they have steak (good), chicken (better) and shredded beef (best) as alternative fillings, they honestly call their version of Gorditas "Big Fat Tacos", the "Macho Burritos" are Chipotle sized and they put guacamole on the top of their diet-busting Taco Salad. They merged with a 'tacos & burgers' chain twenty-some years ago and added burgers & fries to their menu - thus the Chili Cheese Fries.

But, as I've said before, the West Coast's answer to White Castle Sliders are Jack in the Box's 2-for-99-cents Tacos. Not really food, but an incredible simulation. And while Carls Jr. is mostly scary to me, I still have love for their first 'specialty' burger, the Western Bacon Cheeseburger: with BBQ sauce and, instead of regular onions, Onion Rings - I am a sucker for Onion Rings.

At the last place I worked, there were plenty of places to go for fast food lunches. Better than Subway or Quiznos for sub sandwiches was Togo's, especially for their Rueben Sub (but I'm a sucker for sauerkraut too). And with both Chipotle and its failed competitor Baja Fresh available, I just as often chose BF (shorter lines). There was an independent burger place out there that did some dumb things like lettuce on a chiliburger, but had the LARGEST sides you ever saw - a big styro clamshell case of French Fries (good), Onion Rings (great) or Fried Zucchini Sticks (I am the BIGGEST sucker for those). Sadly, there was no way to consume the Zucchini Sticks fast enough before they became cold, limp and greasy (bad combo) and nobody in my office shared my love of the Sticks. I thought I'd left that all behind, but then mini-chain Orcutt Burger opened a location near me (the original Orcutt is 30+ miles away) and I saw it had nearly the same menu as the Pasadena place, including the Zucchini Sticks! But I discovered it right before my car died and didn't get back until my return trip from L.A.

Yes, I dealt with my grief over my father by eating fast food. Wanna make something of it?

Me too. As it is, I can't think of a particular fast food meal that I would prefer over any other. I would happily take McDonald's fries (extra salty!) and a chocolate shake, but that's not a meal.

In my neighborhood in Chicago, I could buy fast-food gyros and fries or fast-food tacos, and these days I would knock you down for either of those.

Oh! I just thought of it! Au Bon Pain used to make a spinach croissant that I looooooooooved, and anytime I got trapped in fast-food-only land (say, a train station or a mall), I'd order that. I haven't had one in years, but I bet I'd still love it.

KFC all the way

I assume this is because there is no Popeye's Fried Chicken near you. It is so much better than KFC. So so so much better.

I don't know what my favorite fast food meal is, but I know my favorite particular items --

McDonald's coffee, even the new stuff, is pretty damn good. I much prefer it to that thick bitter swill they call coffee at $tarbucks.

McDonald's French fries, when hot out of the fryer, are fucking delicious.

I like Burger King's original chicken sammich. Totally made out of the factory-floor scrapings, deep-fried and deadly. I love them.

I don't know wat my favorite burger would be. Probably the cheeseburger at Tony's, a local mom-and-pop place. Yum.

And the Special Dog at the late, lamented Pete's Famous in downtown Birmingham is the standard by which all hot dogs should be judged. (I think BoringPostcards will agree with me on this.)

I won't eat fast food from any national chain. I stopped cold after I read Fast Food Nation. I've also stopped eating meat, which definitely cuts down a bit on options, since January this year.

There are a few local (Seattle) chains I used to rarely drop in on -- Burgermaster, a classic place with actual car hops, which has excellent burgers, Dick's Drive-in, another longstanding local outfit with a wonderful greasy burger option called a Dick's Deluxe, plus very nice classic fries, and Kidd Valley, which has outstanding berry shakes and awesomely delicious deep fried mushrooms.

I'm another one who only eats fast food under extreme circumstances - a car trip gone much longer than anticpated, say. I also don't eat beef.

If I can find a Taco Bell, a bean burrito with extra hot sauce (not fire sauce, just extra packets of the sauce called hot, please) makes me happy and full.

I will eat and enjoy a regular chik-fil-a sandwich. My body will usually regret it later, but not consistenly enough for me to swear off of them lifetime.

Culver's: ButterBurger deluxe meal, though I don't like the Ore-Ida-esque fries as much. But I looooooove Culver's.

There's something about the pickles-and-ketchup combination on the wussy little regular McDonald's cheeseburgers that I love, so I generally get the two cheeseburgers meal instead of the Big Mac.

At Chipotle, I usually get a veggie fajita burrito with half the rice and half the beans and all the stuff on it, with both pico de gallo and corn salsa. I like the spot where the rice, cheese, sour cream and guac all come together :)

I HATE the corporate flair that they put up in Jimmy John's shops, but I love their bike delivery from our nearest one, so I get a 12 (Beach Club) with oregano and onions.

And I am SO SO SO excited that Capriotti's has caught up with me at last (it started as a family shop in my birthplace of Wilmington, DE and after franchising beginning in Las Vegas has now opened two shops here in Madison). They are still as fabulous as always -- so good that my mom would go visit and bring them back on the airplane with her! I am all about the Italian, with an occasional detour into Meatball territory.

I did used to love the incredible (and incredibly caloric and cholesterol filled) cinnamon rolls at Cinnebon too. But sadly after they were sold in 1998 the rolls just didn't taste good any more. Still wonderful if any of you drop by Seattle are the cinnamon rolls at the Honey Bear bakery.

Carl's Jr. Western Bacon Cheeseburger. I hadn't had one since I left California in 1994 BUT they now have one fairly close to where my mum lives in Everett, WA. And I must be the only one, but I adored their old fries. They were dehydrated potatoes re-hydrated, formed into crinkle cut french fry shapes and deep-fried a deep golden colour. They were to die for.

Taco Cabana - one of the few Texas things I miss. Their chicken fajita nachos were totally scrumptious.

A&W's Chubby Chicken strips leave KFC in the dust. Their onion rings are pretty good for being breaded rather than battered. I've never had Popeye chicken nor Chick-fil-a although I lived in areas that had them.

Burger King's Whopper Jr. with cheese is good.

McD's quarter pounder with cheese is good and their fries are awesome hot out of the deep fryer.

Not a fan of Wendy's except for their chocolate shakes. Square burgers?!

There really isn't much Mexican fast food up here; actually there's not much Mexican food up here at all. There's Taco del Mar which is passable, Taco Time which I've never eaten, and the rare Taco Bell which have limited menus. Speaking of Taco Bell - their chalupas are nom nom nom (not available in Canada, bastards).

Subway is a nice change, especially with the new flatbread they offer instead of the regular bread.

Oh god yes, Cinnabons. When I was in Houston, every Friday I'd buy a four pack and have two for each weekend breakfast.

I never really ate much fast food, but like bearwife I swore off it forever after seeing Fast Food Nation and other documentaries.

However, there's a place here in Portland called Little Big Burger that I will indulge in occasionally. It's really not that expensive, and you get local free-range beef and local spuds and they make their own ketchup too! The burgers are small, and oh-so delicious. I get blue cheese on mine (hold the pickles) and a side of fries. The fries are spritzed with white truffle oil. Orgasmic.

Oh, man... Where do I start?

I love me some White Castle, but the boyfriend hates it and the closest one to our apartment is not easily accessible by public transit. And given that White Castle is best enjoyed after a night out at the bar, driving there isn't a good idea. I might eat it once every two years.

There is a Dairy Queen by my work that has all sorts of foodstuffs. Their burgers are great, their onion rings are even better, and it's all cheap. The first time I had their onion rings, I was surprised that they were actual onion slices - huge ones, at that. Other places sometimes use processed onion bits that are shaped into rings.

I do sometimes crave a McDonald's cheeseburger - mostly for the seed free bun and the little onion bits they put on top. The McRib is by far my favorite thing McDonald's has to offer, so it's probably good that they don't serve them all the time. Their breakfast burritos are good too. I usually get those when we're at the airport going somewhere.

I haven't eaten at Burger King in quite a while, but used to eat there a lot in high school (there was one across the street and it was always less crowded than McDonald's). Their croissant breakfast sammiches are yummy.

Chicago has it's own fast food culture. Wherever you live, you can get hot dogs (Vienna Beef, Chicago style), gyros (aka stinky gyros), and tacos from a number of little one-off places. They usually serve a variety of other fried foods, of which the pizza puff is always my weakness. There's one place we've ordered from where their pizza puff is about the size of an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper. NOM

We both, but the boyfriend especially, have a soft spot for Long John Silvers. The closest one to our apartment is not close at all, but sometimes we'll plan our errands so we drive by one. He's been volunteering at a food bank that's close to one, so over the past month or so he's had it at least three times. Every time he rubs it in my face because I'm at work. Lame.

SONIC! Oh, I love Sonic. I cannot wait until they put one in Chicago. We have some in the outlying suburbs, but not in any burb we'd already be going to. Sausage breakfast toaster, tater tots, and one of their assorted drinks. We eat Sonic a lot while we're on vacation in the southwest or Florida.

I've eaten at a couple of the East coast burger places, but can't remember which ones they were. In-and-Out and Whataburger maybe? I remember one being EXCELLENT and the other just being good, but can't remember which was which. Hrmph.

Yikes!! I am such a fat kid - I probably have four or five more places I could write about, but I'm going to stop now.

McDonald's French fries, when hot out of the fryer, are fucking delicious.

My mother, who is Belgian and knows a thing or two about fries, agrees with you. Her trick is to always order them without salt. The fries under the heat lamp get salted immediately, so you'll always get a batch right out of the fryer! Add salt to taste.
