Threre's something not-quite-right about this that I can't articulate. Joan Fucking Jett. Sings with Miley Cyrus. On Oprah.

It's like if we had a thread about most improbable duos in most improbable venues, this is what I would have picked.

I doubt we will ever know the real Miley Cyrus before she is 30. That is the nature of today's entertainment industry. I see this more as an opportunity for Joan to capture some Miley fans. "Bad Reputation" is as timeless a pop ditty as ever written. The question is: will the adult Miley deliver on the rebel promise as well as Christina Ricci did?

I'm sort of the opinion that this is probably a peek into the real person beneath the Miley Industrial Image that has been constructed around her, largely thanks to the Disney machine. Her turn on Saturday Night Live was pretty self-deprecating on that image, too. I have no problem imagining teen Cyrus heading home after a day of taping Hanna Montana and putting on some JJ to drive that nonsense out of her head. Seriously.
