Newfound good thing about living alone [More:]I was eating cheese and crackers just now and realized I didn't want the rest of the rather large cracker I was midway through eating.
I was about to throw it out and then I realized I could PUT IT BACK in the bag! Because who cares? I am the only one who is going to reach in there again and it's not gross if I was the one who nibbled on it already.

For some reason this feels very liberating. Second only to the realization that everything is EXACTLY where I put it before (except for things the bunny has access to I guess).
If I lived with you, rmless2, I would relish finding your half-eaten cracker. . .at least the first few times.

Katherine Mansfield on living alone: "Even if I should, by some awful chance find a hair upon my bread and honey - at any rate it is my own hair."

My friend once told me, "If I'm at work, and I think about that slice of chocolate cake I brought home from the restaurant last night, I know it's gonna be right there where I left it."

The whole thing is making me wonder what other "rules" I should be breaking. Any suggestions?
I've already tried not making the bed but I like coming home to a neat bed and making it helps me not get back into it right away.

When you come right down to it, there's really no reason to even slice the cheese. Just take a bite!

Not that this is germane, but still. . .there was a serial rapist here in my town who is in jail right now partially because he was into cheese. After the assault, he would go to the victims' fridges and sample whatever cheese they had.

Easy dental match.

Ok so the lesson I got from this is that it is ok to bite directly into cheese as long as you are not a serial rapist. I will keep that in mind.

When you live alone, there don't have to be any rules! Do whatever you want!

My father peels bananas halfway, breaks off the top and leaves the rest to spoil.

Who says you have to "make" dinner? If you'd rather dine on dessert instead, go for it!

It's my house and I'll do what I want.

I rarely ever do dishes.

Pretty much anything you ever do, you can do naked. You also don't have to shut the bathroom door while you are doing your business. Feel free to fart, burp and scratch inappropriate places at any time.

I love mr alto to bits but sometimes being with another person all the time is just so TIRING. So when he's not there I like being able to retreat into my own headspace and just potter around without worrying about what someone else is thinking.

I was talking to my cousin about living alone (a bazillion years ago, when I lived alone) and he was shocked to learn that I still closed the bathroom door even when living alone. I did drink directly out of the milk (and the whisky), but for the most part, I found that the "rules" of nice living (picking up after yourself, eating meals at the table, cleaning hairs off the soap) make me feel better, whether I live alone or not. But when Guy goes off for his winter-long ski trips, I truly relish playing whatever movies I want and skipping past "his" music on the server, and letting the toast get cold and hard before buttering it.

This is me too. It wouldn't be so bad if I had a room where I could shut the door.
