Minecraft Friday: Share! Not to hijack the Friday theme, and I'm sure some of you are thoroughly sick of Minecraft, but for those of you who aren't - I'm curious about your worlds, specifically those you call home. [More:]I know that some folks work on the Aporkalypse, and mgl has an incredibly developed Minecraft town/blog. I have way too much time on my hands, so I'd like to see what the rest of you have done. As a starter, here's my sad little homeworld (courtesy of Cartographer G.) It's an old one - predates biomes - but if you'd like to try it for yourself, you can. Here!
And yet again, I omit the (more inside). Sorry mods, fixee?

I've just been soaking up the Yogscast on yt. Once my income tax refund comes in, I hope to build a desktop machine that can run Minecraft. I have a dream about roping my old college roommate in to do a survival multiplayer recording like the early yogscast eps. Except my goal won't be to show people Minecraft because everyone's already seen it. It'll be to show a complete n00b trying to learn everything at once, and people will watch it for the nostalgia factor of being like, "Oh yeah, I remember being completely fucked like that. Kiss those diamonds goodbye, son!"

I don't usually take many screenshots of my home base- they're usually underground, so there's not much to see from outside. I'll grab some indoor views when I get home this evening, though.

I did take this screenshot from the front door of a home I built in a snowy tundra, that has been a lot of fun to play:

A couple shots of my little house, sorta F.L.Wright inspired.

Here's my digs on the Aporkalypse.

I think of it as a tropical island piratey/shipwrecked kind of place. The area in the center of the map is Crabby Bottom Village. I put beacons up around the peninsula claiming it as my own, and added some things here and there. The big mountain to the left of the village is the main attraction and I've dug into it and under it quite a bit with the idea that it's a secret pirate base. Still haven't been motivated to build a ship though; the whole side of minecraft that's about making models of objects doesn't excite me as a builder.

It's on a multiplayer server, but I consider the peninsula area "mine" and sometimes just like to wander around it. It's odd.

The big plan was to make the area somewhere fun to explore by boat, hence making a mangrove swamp by planting tress in water, channels to pilot around in, etc. But then Notch broke boats in multiplayer, so that project kind of died and people stopped boating around places in general.

Here's my minecraft blog, which I've been kind of neglecting lately. The hopping town of New Arcadia is just too big for screenshots to do it justice; I have to figure out how to make videos so I can share a walkaround. Here are a couple okay ones of some recent stuff, though - (and these are all on the blog) sorry they are all so gigandor.

Ghidorah! He flies above town to the northwest.

And the Baltimore rowhouses down by the harbor - they need formstone and white marble steps but still, there they are.

While we're talking Minecraft pics: does the in-game screenshot function work for any of you? When I hit F2 (PC), it flashes a message that says "Screenshot saved as blahblahblah.png", but then there is no png file saved. It's supposed to save into your Minecraft folder, I think. Anybody else having that problem?

Works for me but I'm on a Mac.. :-S

That reminded me maybe I do have some screenies.

This is the main Crabby Bottom hut, with mob-proofing:

My "bedroom" in the house in my most-played world. (Where I now have a tame wolf as a pet/helper!)

This is built into a cliffside- up top there's another room, mostly glass, with a couple of furnaces, chests, and a crafting table. And it's lit by jack-o-lanterns.

How are you feeding your wolf, BP? Every time I go to give Blocky a pork chop I just end up eating it myself.

I ran into a wolf and tried to wave a pork chop at it but it just kept attacking me. I ended up having to kill it to keep from dying. Do they only like uncooked pork?
posted by octothorpe 02 April | 11:58
Yeah, they seem to only want raw porkchops. Also don't feed your pet wolf any bread, as apparently it hurts them. mygothlaundry, you can tell if your wolf needs a porkchop by his tail - up in the air a bit, healthy; hanging down, he needs meat!

Oh, and they'll tilt their heads to beg if you're holding a chop, whether they need one or not. I had four loyal wolves until I swam across a small sea to get back home. Somewhere along the way, they stopped teleporting next to me and just disappeared. *sob*
