AskMe Crosspost Thoughts?
I searched for quotes about uncertainty. There's one from Ursula LeGuin. How fitting. :-)

It's not a pithy saying, but the phrase my grandmother used to use for this idea was "Don't borrow trouble." I always liked that image, of going out and looking for things to worry about, because you have none.

No specific thoughts, but man do I hear you on that one.

So here's the background: For days, I've been trying to think of an appropriate quote, because I had a great weekend with the SO and things are going so well, and I just can't seem to relax and enjoy it and not worry that something will now go terribly wrong. And I like quotes and was hoping to find something that would help me.

And then last night, the SO (who is in a very rigorous training program - think boot camp) said about the program (and I paraphrase), "We are probably going to get destroyed tomorrow."

And I said, "Why do you think that?"

And he said, "Because today was great."

I wonder if it's good or bad that apparently he and I both operate on that faulty logic.

Maybe you can take that fear of impending terror when you're happy and twist it slightly into a more moderate acknowledgement that the happiness is temporary and cause for gratitude.

I spent a bit this morning trying to find a quote for you - I want to say it's from
Vanilla Sky, and it's something like "I never let happiness in without a full body search."

But yeah, I know what you mean. Unadulterated happiness is just a Trojan Horse for sadness.

Billy Joel: "There's a lot to be said for contentment." I agree.

However, it seems more common to have the faulty logic that if today is great, the good times will simply continue.

That logic probably comes more from feelings of contentment than from extreme happiness.
