It's not a pithy saying, but the phrase my grandmother used to use for this idea was "Don't borrow trouble." I always liked that image, of going out and looking for things to worry about, because you have none.
So here's the background: For days, I've been trying to think of an appropriate quote, because I had a great weekend with the SO and things are going so well, and I just can't seem to relax and enjoy it and not worry that something will now go terribly wrong. And I like quotes and was hoping to find something that would help me.
And then last night, the SO (who is in a very rigorous training program - think boot camp) said about the program (and I paraphrase), "We are probably going to get destroyed tomorrow."
And I said, "Why do you think that?"
And he said, "Because today was great."
I wonder if it's good or bad that apparently he and I both operate on that faulty logic.
Maybe you can take that fear of impending terror when you're happy and twist it slightly into a more moderate acknowledgement that the happiness is temporary and cause for gratitude.
I spent a bit this morning trying to find a quote for you - I want to say it's from
Vanilla Sky, and it's something like "I never let happiness in without a full body search."
But yeah, I know what you mean. Unadulterated happiness is just a Trojan Horse for sadness.
