28 March 2011

It's Asian fetish week at OK Cupid and I've been getting a spring surge of attention from those who need to know where I'm from and general sex freaks[More:] not that it matters right now because I am in no position to date. But the people trolling OK Cupid are about ready to ask "wanna fuck" but totally lack the nerve.
I'm watching Tony Bourdain eating with a big game hunting club. When is Big Game Hunter coming back into fashion?

I'm not sure about Big Game Hunter, but, hey! CREEPY ATTENTION NICE, NO?

no? Oh.

Asian fetish week?

Sometimes I'm so glad I didn't stay with OKCupid.

the spring fever thing is getting out of hand. I had successfully cryogenically frozen my, well, appreciations of these things in life since like last summer under a mountain of sleep deprivation and work but now it's seeping up to the surface of my consciousness again and I'm attempting to plug the leak before it leads to bouts of self-esteem pangs, abortive attempts at asking people out, etc etc. No, no! Damnable psyche-distorting distraction!

I'm pretty sure she's joking and that it's not an actual thing. Eth, if you're not in a position to date right now, maybe take a break from OKC? Or are you looking to meet friends on there?

That's every week for me. I like to cruise the museums, awww yeeeeeah.

Ah, spring fever! That explains why I'm suddenly ignoring twice as many messages from frat boys who I wouldn't have dated even when they would've been age appropriate.

Indeed every week is white girl week.
(this is a variatiation on my mamas answer "everyday is childrens day" to my question why there was a day for mothers and for fathers but not for children)

I remember trying OKCupid..I think in the first five minutes of signing up I had someone with a foot fetish asking for pics of my feet. I thought it was an oddity..until it happened almost every day - with different people. Very strange. I didn't stay on that site very long, needless to say.

Have you guys seen this profile? HAWT!
posted by amro 29 March | 10:51
amro, my favorite and least favorite part of that link is the sidebar of "similar profiles" at the lower right.

Ha, me too. How can you not be turned on by a guy with a handle like "Fartparticle"?

I'm sure that guy who is surely not a murderer would be a lovely companion and so easy to talk to.
I've been avoid okcupid for the most part but the emails get forwarded. Point one: spring is in the air and people are getting out there a bit more. Point two: people with a burning need to know where I'm from are always a turn off. Excuses can be made for the homeschooled girl with the eighteen brothers and sisters and the strict Catholic background who was dumbstruck staring at me like an alien, but she still got demoted to a subclass of human I don't care to truck with. Point three: the whole Asian fetish thing creeps me out. Fetish is meant to mean object, and fetishists are generally pretty indiscriminate. There's enough stuff to try and figure out about a guy without the racist baggage. Point four: I am so not up to dating. I kinda thought I should be so I started this but I'm not ready or up to it. Should someone exceptional wander into view, I'll have to play that as it lies, but dealing with the skeevy end of okcupid has me thinking it's better left alone.

This is a bitch to do by phone, but portable metachat, how about that.

I hear ya. I never know quite what to make of it when a guy tells me he "loves Jewish girls."

I hear that --- it's hard enough to connect with another human being anyway; when they start out by introducing some preconceptions about race or gender or other innate trait, that must be infuriating.

Oh totally. Those women who prefer "tall guys".

BoringPostcards, I thought you had launched a metachat dating site. I'm all like, lofi?

I thought it was an acronym for something hottt. lofi.

Lofi! OMG, thank you!

Ha, take that "blocking every site with chat in the name."

I'm not sure that category carries the same kind of assumptions as Asian Fetish or I Dig Black Guys or Oooooh Redheads Are Hot. But maybe I'm wrong; I've only seen it from the outside.

That said, until I was hit by a car, I was well over 5'10", and I didn't restrict my dating pool to tall guys*. I don't really understand wanting to artificially restrict your options, but everyone's entitled to. It's pushing your own assumptions about other people based on their ethnic or physical background that irks me.

* though I did restrict my dating pool to "guys who can refrain from pointing out over and over that they're 'okay with [my] height'" which unfortunately cut out a lot of shorter men I found otherwise attractive. But that was them making a repeated statement about an innate trait, not me, and certainly I don't think all or even most shorter men feel that way.
