OH GOD OH GOD I have never had a job interview involving anything other than a) chatting at a table or b) taking a test by paper/writing sample... until now![More:]The sad thing is that this stupid job is more than likely an internal hire, given the speed of this process, so I am probably worrying about nothing.

I am supposed to create 1) a handout explaining why blogs are better than newsletters, including pros and cons and tips on making the transition easy, and 2) a ten-minute presentation, of any form, on "Top Tips for Creating An Awesome Communications Plan."

And dude, I can do that, but in both of these cases I have SO MUCH I COULD TELL and so little space and time in which to do it. I am very feedback-oriented, and the idea of just doing this out in space with no real guidelines... not helping!

Have I mentioned that this is on Wednesday?

Oh god oh god oh god...
Calm blue ocean. Calm blue ocean.

you can do it. you don't have to cover every point just make yourself seem like an incisive / trustworthy source for information on this front. take enough time to make the handout and then do the presentation after that and you should be set.

Keep calm, and remember #1 and #2 are each directed toward a different market. Consult us as necessary. We'll bill you.

Consider wowing them with Prezi. Next to the inescapable somnolence-inducing powerpoints of your competition, this will make your presentation memorable. So, it bears mentioning, would interpretive dance, but I'm not sure if that's what's called for here.

Imagine yourself in the audience. Make it easy to understand and fun for you.

And whether you get this job or not, this is a great exercise. Try to think of it as interesting and enjoyable and the panic level will fall.

FOR GASSAKES STOP FREAKING OUT

There. That's better, isn't it? It's all better when you get over the overwhelming dread part of a thing. Now it can be a kind of exciting thing that you live through.

Prezi is eyecatching and I personally think it's fun to see and use, but do be a little wary and consider your audience. The first time we used it in a presentation, we totally lost everyone on our content because all they could talk about was "Wow! What is that software? How does it animate? Holy cow!" No one remembered a thing. That might be different in a setting where people are a little more communications savvy.

But also, some people found the zooming seasick-making.

I've also had fun using Wordles in presentations. I'm always looking for new ways to present, so if you find something cool, let us know!

And good luck. You got this!

The less you say, the more they'll remember.

I got two hours sleep the night before, but I nailed it. To the WALL.
