Is there a tastier cookie than a soft, chewy macaroon?
No. No there is not. And if you took more than a nanosecond to arrive at this, the only possible sane and virtuous answer, then shame on you.

Macaroons seemed to have morphed into something different recently. When I was growing up, they were a coconut cookie. Now they are a meringue cookie. Which macaroon do you mean?

Macaroons are lovely but yesterday I had a fantastic chewy ginger snap cookie made with dark, dark molasses and . . .well . . . it was better than a macaroon.

Other things which are better than macaroons:

Chocolate chip cookies, particularly when warm
Thin mints. Oh, what do the Girl Scouts put in those things?
Real butter cookies
Even more evil, real oil cookies.
Super chewy oatmeal cookies. Especially if made with chocolate.
Chocolate crinkle cookies.

Chocolate chip cookies are better than macaroons.
Oreos are better than macaroons.
Mallomars are better than macaroons.
Chocolate covered graham crackers are better than macaroons.
Frosted animal crackers are better than macaroons.

Snickerdoodles are not better than macaroons.

For the record, I'm speaking of the coconut thing. Meringue is an abomination. (Merengue, on the other hand? A delight.)

I ate many, many cans of Manischewitz macaroons before I started watching what I ate. I know they aren't technically "good" but I kind of miss them.
