Wednesday 3-point update [More:]

1) Our crocuses are blooming! hooray!

2) I made bunny cookies! more specifically, cookies shaped like bunnies, because, hilariously, that happens to be the ONLY cookie cutter in existence at Chez LFR, and it's one the mister actually inherited from his roommates.

Backstory: Sunday was crappy weather wise so I spent the whole day baking and playing with the new kitty. I decided on a whim to try my hand at homemade Thin Mints, because hey, Thin Mints, right? Right. Then I discovered that I have less than zero skill at confectionary yes, my chocolate-peppermint coating overheated and seized, dammit... so I tossed some butter in it and turned it into frosting, LA LA LA I MEANT TO DO THAT!!

Ahem. Anyhows, I used this recipe I used 1/2 tsp salt instead of 3/4 tsp, and 1/2 cup plain old Hershey's and 1/2 cup of my new "double dutch dark cocoa" that I got from King Arthur. And despite the epic fail on the coating, the chocolate wafer cookies themselves are SO, SO, SO!! good. SO good! OM NOM NOM. seriously: gobble-them-up good. They didn't even need the frosting / coating / whatever. So you know what? Screw all that fiddly melting-chocolate crap, I say. I'm thinking simple piped icing or even just some sugar button eyes, and these will become a wonderful Easter tradition :)

3) one of my colleagues has the world's most infectious laugh. It never fails to make me smile when I hear him. I wish I could upload a sound clip, it's that awesome.
1. Out last week with horrid virus, so lotsa reading now as I catch up.

2. Booking a 3 day trip in April (for business) to Hilton Head, SC. Sorry my hubby won't be there but I'm kind of psyched to see it, even if only very briefly and mostly in the neighborhood of my hotel.

3. SAW A BUNNY this AM. We were stopped in traffic and my Bear said, look, a bunny! It was a wooden bunny, but nonetheless I uttered, OMG, Bunny! Cracked up the Bear. My good MeCha deed for the day.

1. It is lunchtime. I feel like I've been eating too much heavy food lately, so lunch is a delicious big green salad with tomatoes and broccoli and onions and some cheese. And homemade ranch dressing, I'll give you the recipe if you want.

2. Still working entirely too much. I come in at 7 a.m., get an hour for lunch, stay an hour or two late after normal go-home time, get home, exercise, do a few household chores and eat some dinner, and voila! Bedtime, she is here. Repeat next day. This will probably go on for at least another 4 weeks.

3. Am mostly feeling okay, but I could really use some fun. Some fun, some love, some hot sex, some hot weather, some something.

1. My low-carb diet is working. I feel good, have lost a few pounds and am enjoying eating healthy food. But I know that this is damage limitation, because I'm going on holiday soon and will probably eat what I want when I'm away.

2. I did my good deed for the day when I took a neighbour to the garage to pick up his car. (No, not that neighbour, not the one whose car was repo'd by bailiffs a couple of weeks ago. A different, nice, neighbour.)

3. I could use more fun in my life too. I was at a market on Saturday and one of the stalls sells CDs, mostly reggae, Lover's Rock, funk and old-skool r'n'b. They played "Funkin' for Jamaica" and I started dancing and now I really, really want to go dancing in a club playing 80s r'n'b.

1. Going to see the pdoc today at 330 (so leaving work for the day at 3). Hoping she will get off my ass about my sleeping pill usage and will have some ideas about tweaking my meds to avoid the nighttime/weekend cratering.

2. Trying to decide how much time I want to take off for my summer vacation (even though I have no money to go anywhere). I'm thinking of possibly doing 2 weeks instead of my usual 1 because then I'll do one week of unwinding and then another week of all out work on Survombie so I can get that into some semblance of order so I can start writing it again.

3. Really excited about my cheese omelet tonight. (After I go to the gym, I get home, shower, and then make a ridiculous 3 egg + mozzerella cheese+ Old Bay omlet.) Om nom nom eggs and cheese. (The Old Bay was a happy accident because I meant to put in pepper but Old Bayed it instead. Trust me on this, it's good.) It's probably pretty sad that a highlight of my week is food, but so it goes.

1. The boyfriend got the job! He has gone from miserable to happy which has greatly increased my own quality of life.

2. I woke up this morning with what seemed like the beginnings of a cold, but it seems to have backed off.

3. I celebrated losing weight by getting a cheeseburger from Five Guys yesterday. A bit counterintuitive, I know.

1. one of my best friends had a baby a few hours ago. Very excited for her. Only got the news (text) from her partner though, and he is one of those hopeless people that neglected to tell weight, length etc.

2. Had most of the day off today and instead of spending it doing useful things, I lay on my bed and read. I'm going to go for a run now though.

3. It's a beautiful day in NYC. Happiness!

1. I started off today in a great mood, and then a client all but called me stupid in an email sent to my entire department. Eff you, lady. You've pissed off the one person who can actually do something to help you, and I'm happy to be petty about this.

2. Trying to figure out what order to do things in tonight. I have an apartment viewing at 5:30, and then need to hit the gym, have dinner, and write a paper. Having dinner first makes sense, but that means I'll be at the gym later. And I hate that. Shoot, and I need to buy food.

3. In general, right now I feel like I'm planning so many exciting things - trips out of town, grad school, moving across town, a new car - but nothing's happening. I'm very impatient to get all this planning out of the way, and start *doing* things. I know I'll eventually look back on this tranquil period in my life and be grateful for it, but it just feels like wasted time right now. I'm trying to make it count for something more, though.

Sperose - I like Lawry's Seasoning Salt in my eggs, so I'm totally with you on Old Bay. I'll try that.

Amro - congrats to your boyfriend! Yay!

The boyfriend got the job! Yay amro!

sperose: old bay & eggs is one of life's modern marvels. I also recommend it as a dry rub for chicken wings, especially if you prefer to bake them instead of deep-frying (I do).

/Maryland native.

update update: BigPharmaCo is undergoing a bunch of infrastructure upgrades. Just now when I walked out to the shop, one of the Maintenance guys was happily tossing a bunch of corroded old piping sections into the dumpster and shout-singing this old Motley Crue standard. It sounded like a contemporary take on the Anvil Chorus.

1) After slogging through several weeks of a bad phase of self-induced non-productivity, things started rolling again on their own. I wrote a 20 page game spec then did the poster for my carnivorous plant club's annual show in about 12 hours. For once, I got the poster done well before deadline, so yay!

2) Also on the carnivorous plant front, this morning I stepped on some green, soggy, unidentifiable thing upon getting out of bed, a gift from one of the cats. Tossed it in the trash only to fish it back out several hours later when it was noted my aquatic Utricularia was missing from its open-topped tank. Bad kitty! Hopefully, the plant survives.

3) I just made pumpkin cookies. Mmmmm.

1. Plans continue to roll along smoothly for our move back to Brazil. Hooray! I think we may have already found a place to rent down there (thanks to a very good friend), and I think we have a good chance of renting out our house here for a good price. Double hooray! Further related to the move, I posted this question on the Green today. Feel free to take a look and add your thoughts.

2. Still waiting for some tests results back from my neurologist. I talked to her nurse today, who informed me that my doctor is actually out of the office this week, and probably won't be back until Monday. *sigh* In other health related news, I have been wearing a cardiac event monitor for a month, and I just shipped the bastard back to the company! Hooray! I am glad not to be tied to that damn thing anymore.

3. It is a beautiful day in North Carolina. Hooray! Crocuses, daffodils and dogwoods are all starting to bloom. If I didn't have to work, I would be outside with the dog. Instead, I have thrown open every window in the house. I suspect it won't be too long before my husband needs to start taking his allergy medicine again :)

Yay amro! and yay cookies!

1. I've been cultivating Small Good Habits lately (a little chunk of physical therapy every day, writing every day, one Onerous Chore every day, cutting down caffeine every day, and so on), partly thanks to someone here mentioning in passing the motivational technique Don't Break The Chain. It's been tremendously helpful, so thanks, whoever it was!

2. Snow here! Just for a change! Ha! Winter is starting to get to me OH SWEET MERCY. but it's sunny and supposed to be clear this evening, so YAY.

3. A friend's pub trivia team has an absentee tonight, so he asked me to step in. Should be fun!

Gee, I like that Don't Break the Chain thing, Elsa. (You got me motivated to google it.) The Health Month for Mefis thing is another version of that that I think is cool, now that I've done a whole day of it.

Was finally able to document the night doorman's unsafe slack-off last night, but haven't yet heard back from the condo board.

Learned that the crackhead with the horrible voice who begs on the local yellow subway lines fakes his blindness.

Off to mid-TN Saturday.

1. The 3 yr old is gone upstairs to bed already. It's only 6PM, but she is. just. so. tired. She didn't even pitch a fit at the teeth-brushing, so yeah, it was bedtime.

2. The above fact increases the chances that the husband and I will get an opportunity for some sexyfuntime tonight, woohoo!

3. My sourdough starter is very happy and I have had so much fun this past week baking bread. Chewy and crusty and flavorful bread, yum. Three loaves this week! With butter! And homemade jam from last summer! I can feel the fatness overtaking me....

If I can ever find the chicken bits I froze several months ago (I think they've been buried under bags of steamable veggies), I'll test out Old Bay on them. Thanks for the tip!

Unfortunate/fortunate updates: the pdoc was a complete bitch and didn't seem to hear what I was saying so I think it may be time for a second opinion, but I'll talk to the shrink and see what he thinks tomorrow AND I ellipticalled the fuck out at the gym (in part to deal with my pissedoffness) because I thought my last high score was 4.56 miles and so I was all :( when I only got to 4.55 but then I looked at my book and last week's score was actually 4.45 and it was all awwwwwwwww yeah.

1) Hungry. Heading home in a few minutes and looking forward to making dinner, whatever it turns out to be.

2) We have a few days of rain predicted, and I'm worried about the (diffuse, not located so not fixed) roof leak.

3) Excited for a friend who's had an astonishing lineup of good things happen lately.

Hehe, people actually care about the weight and length? Those are 2 stats I could do without, all I ever do with them is try to imagine if the childbirth was just regular painful (5lbs12oz) or mega-painful (9lbs12oz).

1. Finally did a tiny bit of cleaning this morning which made me feel better about the whole day

2. Ordered something new from the burrito place (not a burrito) which was a mistake but at least now I know

3. Gave the bunny carrots for dinner and now he superloves me

1) Been whipped by the addition of dog-sitting duty for the folks while they're in Hawaii this week in addition to my normal work/school stuff. Haven't slept much or well. Cranky as a result.

2) Still pondering options for the hind-end of my Spring Break. Most likely option now is taking a day off of work, heading to Dallas on St. Patty's Day and seeing Screeching Weasel play. Bonus points for seeing not only the best mate, but a handful of other good friends that I haven't seen in a couple of years.

3) Pondering pandering jamaro for a print copy of that poster (or inquiring where I can order one for cash money). I like it a lot.

3.beta) didn't really mean pandering. Too tired to think of real turns of phrase, went for lazy rhyming scheme that will probably make me look bad. Off to bed now. Yay sleep.
