I dunno, Sheen sounds pretty much the same as every other self-important cokehead I've had the misfortune to hold a conversation with. You can laugh at them for a bit, but the amusement value wears off once you realise they're going to be jabbering on like that all damn night...
It's so hard to believe the man doesn't know how insane he sounds, but I've watched a few of the interview clips and it's clear that he is off the deep end and doesn't realize it.
Don't mean to be a buzzkill, but actually I really do.
As a member of a family who has tried desperately to get a beloved cokehead/crackhead/meth-head/heroin addict off drugs, from unsuccessfully STOPPING THEM FROM TALKING TO OTHER PEOPLE AND OH MY GOD GET INTO TREATMENT AND STOP ACTING LIKE THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU, I say: much love and peace to the Estevez/Sheen family. Their burden is great right now. I hope they are getting the love and and support they deserve. I can only imagine that having a loved one break down so publicly must be so difficult. I hurt on their behalf.
My family has had it's share of addictions, but it's mostly been alcohol (three generations worth). I wasn't around two family members at the time they were were actively addicted to cocaine. I'm guessing that because alcohol is a depressant and cocaine is not, it takes a personality on a whole different trip?
When I look at the comments about Sheen here and on Twitter and on the blogs there seems to be a bit of a gulf between people who've seen those close to them self-destruct on drugs, and those who haven't.
Someone on Twitter said "In an odd sort of way, I admire Charlie Sheen's composure under fire. No, really". Scott Adams is saying "I think Charlie is fascinating because he's living without fear". That kind of thing annoys me.
Yes, shoving a load of coke up your nose gives you an unshakeable sense of self-confidence. But it's just the drugs. If somebody takes a load of speed and stays up all night doing random chores you don't have to admire their diligence. If somebody necks a bottle of Jack Daniels and dances drunkenly down the street you don't have to admire their lack of inhibition. It's just the drugs.
Yes, an addict enjoying his drug of choice is quite genuinely having a great time and will tell you all about how much fun he's having. The problems only come either when you stop, or when it kills you because you can't stop.
God knows I'm not in a position to get on my high horse about drug use, but Sheen is way, way, way over any conceivable line where it can be considered a positive thing or a youthful experiment or just part of a certain lifestyle.
