Did Jon Stewart just start channeling Stephen Colbert? Sure, you may think he's being ironic/satirical/sarcastic, but I hear it was under orders from the corporate offices at Viacom (apparently some terms in his latest contract he didn't read thoroughly).
Seems like fairly normal Jon Stewart to me.

I suspect much of the show last night was clumsily and quickly rewritten after the camel debacle* in Wisconsin. The opening bit was Stewart showing his worst "both sides are silly!" tendencies. (He doesn't do this all the time, but often enough to be annoying). And I could see that the second piece you linked was meant to be a sarcastic defense of unions, but, as I said, it was clumsy and bound to confuse people.

* I can see the orphan set-up lines for the camel bit in the opening piece that never get used. This is probably why. Yes, that's John Oliver gently suggesting the guy turn off his camera.(Don't worry: the camel escapes without obvious injury, as you can see here.)
