Black, white and extremely lucky Maggie is my doggie-sister. Miraculously she survived being lost for 12 days in rural South Australia - 8 of which trapped in a tank.
Wow. This falls somewhere between "Holy Crap!" and "fucking Border Collies". I'm so glad she made it through, though that line about her front claws and pads being worn away are just a sad reminder about the panic the poor thing must've been dealing with.
My (increasingly lazy and more Lab-like) half-Border Collie is getting a little extra loving tonight 'cos of this story.
Naturally. You can't keep a good Border Collie down. Or a bad one for that matter ;)
About 6 months ago we had a juvenile (9 month or so) Border come in with fairly intense gastro-distress. We wound up taking x-rays on him and saw major foreign bodies. Client was willing to pay for exploratory surgery so we dug in on him and found a bunch of bright green plastic and wires, but we had to cut open his large intestines in four different spots to get the wires out. It took the better part of two hours, but he recovered nicely. One of those \o/ wins \o/ that make working in a vet environment worth it.
Good ending, thank heavens and I just now realized she shares a name with my aunt's half Border Collie/Chow. And that Maggie is just as energetic. Love hearing she's running around again!
