MetaChat idea generator: Surrealism party Y'all were so good at finding food/sound connections that now I want to ask you what you could imagine doing at a Surrealist party. [More:]We'll have some basics like Exquisite Corpse, magnetic poetry, drip painting, and other Surrealist activities. What else could we do? Food ideas especially appreciated.
I can't top Dali. I'd probably spend time figuring out how to replicate the weird stuff going on in his paintings. (Including trying to find a way to melt watches.)

I think some very odd music would be appropriate. Perhaps Gideon Freudmann or the soundtrack for Metropolis...?

I'd make mashed potato ice cream cones with "caramel" gravy and cranberry "syrup". Actually, that's probably better in my brain than it would be in reality.

Maybe pass out umbrellas and wire hangers as hors d'oeuvres instead.

You could make cupcakes and ice them while they're a bit warm; the icing is likely to slide. Mmm, melting eyeballs, lips, etc. Decorating cupcakes is pretty fun, however.
Could you make surreal-ish gingerbread cookies to decorate? or gingerbread house?
Cones (the non-sugar kind) with meatloaf, gravy and topped with mashed potato sound kind of tasty. Pimento cherry on top?
Most of the ideas I have are just weird.

Food colouring in some guacamole and/or hummus to make it blue? I once ate some corn chips that had words on them, written with black food colouring, but that might be a little labor-intensive.

I think also you could serve regular looking food, but jazz up the serving dishes with random objects. A rubber duck. Shoelaces. A pad of post-its.

To add to the ambiance, put on a surreal film (if you have a TV). It would have to be Un Chien Andalou, of course.

Fun fun. I did read about a way to make bruschetta by dying cannelini beans blue, and serving on red bread.

Someone suggested flashlight Jello - you wrap a flashlight in plastic and submerge it in Jello and let it set, then turn it on. Kind of fun.

Fortunately, weird colored drinks are easy to do. Maybe with odd garnishes.

One really fun idea I had is to provide full-color cut-outs of the Magritte apple and the sky background, and let people take pictures of themselves posing as this.

I'd pass out among the brightly-colored machine tools in the bathtub.

Constantly looping video of both versions of the Porky Pig/Dodo cartoon, and Dali's appearance on "What's My Line?". Too mainstream? Run a few episodes of "Twilight Zone"... backwards.
