Philip Pullman makes a passionate speech against library cuts [More:]I've just read his Dark Materials trilogy (actually I'm half way the amber spy glass). I love this speech in defence of libraries and against the culture of greed.
Stop reading now. The first two books are wonderful; the last is just... yuck. I found it very boring.

At least, that's what I thought anyway.

It's a lot of stuff happening for little reason so far, but I *have* to know how at ends!
If it's really disappointing I'll discard the third book upon rereading the series, just as there's only one Matrix movie etc.
