I've had a truck wheel come over the median like that once, landed just behind our car (and in the same lane). Scary stuff. This is much, much, much scarier though.
Just for the sake of accuracy, this is not the 401....this is either the very bottom of Highway 11, or 400, near Barrie. The 401 doesn't really get anywhere near Barrie - it's at least 100kms south of that city.
That was really the 401 near Guelph. As you said, richat, Barrie is nowhere near the 401. The Gawker text on the story got it right, so I don't know where the label on the video came from.
You want terror and the 401? Try riding your bike on Toronto roads where there are on ramps to the highway. I live in the Junction and had to get out to Vaughan and back for a few weeks last spring. I made damn sure I took Jane (401 has NO on ramps there) and a few side streets to avoid just the kind of thing in that video. Crossing the 407 and its on ramps wasn't too bad, though.
Ah, weird...I stand, or sit, corrected. The first time I saw the video this week, it was labeled as being near Barrie, so I assumed that the highway label was wrong, not the city!
I think the confusion is that the CTV news report that included this video started out talking about a 40-car pileup on the 400 near Barrie, then went on to report about this as well.
How do you know when it's fall in Ontario? The weather's getting cooler, the days are getting shorter, leaves are changing colour, Barrie has 4 feet of snow.
