"Notekeeping" Application This post got deleted on Ask Mefi, and jessamyn said it would probably be a better fit over here, so... my first post :D[More:]

I've created a system for keeping my lecture and reading notes using XML and reStructuredtext. At the moment, it's highly esoteric and requires you to know XML and reStructuredText to actually write entries. If there's interest, however, I could build it into a user-friendly notekeeping system.

Unlike, say, Evernote, this is a pretty specialized system aimed at lecture and reading notes for academia, plus metadata, searching, and publishing. (The facilities of both XML and reStructuredText allow easy publishing to both HTML and PDF.)

Would you, personally, be interested in this sort of thing?
I would not have a use for this, and I can understand why Jessamyn would consider this a borderline self-link, but welcome!

Eh, it's not a self-link. If I decide to make it user-friendly and polished, I'll throw it up on MeFi projects. I'm just trying to gauge whether there's any interest, and MeFi is the best sample I could think of.

If I could figure out what it's for and how to use it I'd be interested.

I would most likely not use it but I know a few folks who might.

Welcome!

Regarding the app, I think it's probably best to only build it if you're going to use it yourself, or if it's a learning exercise. Other people will have subtly different expectations about what it should do, and possibly massively greater expectations about reliability and user support. Best bet is to build it primarily for yourself, then see if other people are interested.

I'd be interested to see the "5 minute overview". I like note taking systems. I know xml, but not restructuredtext. But I don't know if I'd actually want to use it unless it was some kind of perfect fit for me.
