I'm snowed in and going stir crazy. Anyone else snowed in?
Nope sunny here all day in Pittsburgh but we both had the flu so we couldn't go out anyway. I'm feeling a little better but still weak as hell. I'd rather have the snow.
My in-laws in California called worried that we were buried-in since they still think that Pittsburgh is on the east coast. I guess that it's the inverse of that old New Yorker poster about the New York view of the world.
Not snowed in, but rained in. It's been raining here for weeks now, with maybe two clear days in all that time. The kids are off school and going nuts because they can't get outside, there are already "worst ever" floods all over the place and we are still getting 80-100 mm of rain a day at our place. All it will take is a decent storm and the whole place will go under, because there is absolutely no flood storage capacity left anywhere. As I write, predictions are that another cyclone will hit our coast sometime over the Christmas break ...
We ended up with 29". I've been through a lot of big storms and bilzzards, but this takes the cake - because conditions are so rotten and it's taking so long to clean up. Normally once the snow ends, you can get out and about. Not this time. It's still gusting to 50, blowing snow everywhere, and the roads are far from clear and fit only for 4wheel drive.
I'm visiting my parents in NJ for Christmas, which is fun, but of course I've been looking forward to wandering around the downtowns, maybe going to NYC, and hanging out with my brother and his wife - who despite living 20 minutes away might as well be on the moon. Their cars are still buried, and no point unburying them since their parking lot, access road, and the highway that connects them have yet to be plowed, even if I could get to their town. I have a million projects at home I could work on to pass the time and enjoy an enforced day indoors, but they are at home and I'm here. I'm reading magazines, cleaning my email inbox, and watching more TV than I have seen in the entire past year. I took 2 long walks today, taking pictures of the beach and harbor and Christmas lights and snow piles, but that was the extent of my outdoor time. I was hoping maybe some local downtown businesses would be open, but the movie theatre's closed, and all the stores, and all the restaurants except the Thai pace. MY folks have a condo so we don't really even have the project of digging out. Just waiting for the roads to be clear.
I just hope we can get out tomorrow without risking life and limb to this extreme degree. I gotta do something! I'm not the sit-around-all-day type.
We're snowed in here too, Miko, though not to the extent that you are. We ventured out to shovel around 10 am or so .. minimal cars on the roads, minimal plow activity. Hunkered down with plenty of food and media. We don't usually lose our power, but there have been some freak high winds that we've been concerned about. This morning we awoke to decorative snow puffs all over the windows, courtesy of Mother Nature.
We got a decent amount of snow here in northern North Carolina (6 inches?). But I wasn't "snowed in" in any meaningful sense of the word. I drove to the grocery store on Sunday to get coffee (CANNOT run out of coffee) and went to work today with no problems.
The snow did give me an excuse not to do the big grocery shop on Sunday, which was all good.
I am snowed out. I'm currently typing from my parents' dining room table in California where I'm also logged into my work account. My boss is freaking out because I'm not at the office to take care of things that she needs taking care of and my flight (which was supposed to take off tonight) was rebooked for Thursday.
As much as I love my parents, I'm ready to stop being their child and go back to being a responsible adult with her own life on the East Coast.
Also, I really wish I could be there amidst my other fellow New Yorkers in the snow.
29" is crazy! Unlike you, I love to sit around. :-) It has been very cold in Florida. I use the cold as an excuse to be lazy. Last week I watched trash television; a marathon of The Will: Family Secrets Revealed on Investigation Discovery.
I hope you get out today. It sucks to be on vacation with nothing to do.
I'm hearing you, Miko. We got over two feet here, too. I still haven't attempted to hit a main road..having enough trouble getting out of my development.
9" in Asheville on Christmas day means the roads are only now getting clear but at least it got up over 20 degrees today for the first time since the 24th. Whoo. I'm not a fan.
