Hey Atom Eyes, I saw this post at work, and had to come home to see it, and though I wanted to hate it, I hate it EVEN MORE! The original is so classic, and I don't know (as usual) what John C. Overexposed Reilly is doing. I respect Will Ferrell, and I think one can see the talent difference in this. Ptooey!
Watch the old school and be charmed! Rumpa pum pum.
Or was there some kind of payoff/money shot at the end I just didn't get to out of disgust and non-funniness?
Well, I'll disagree with all y'all and say that I will watch any. damn. thing. that John C. Reilly and Will Ferrell do with each other, because they sell it so well. They don't care about the viewer; I think it's basically a giant game of chicken between the two of them to see if they can make the other step out of being super serious, but they never do. Talladega Nights, Stepbrothers... yep and yep.
(I'm not even a giant Will Ferrell fan. I just think the two of them are ridiculous.)
Grar. This pales in comparison to the Phil Hartman as Frankenstein version (along with Kevin Nealon as Tonto and I think someone else) when Hartmanstein punched his fist through the drum then just looked so perfectly despondent. Probably among my top three little subtle Hartman moments of all time. And I can *never* find a clip of it online (Youtube shows me some crappy footage of other similar bits from that episode, but not the one I want, damn it all).
