I am at my desk and just finished a salad from the cafe at work, a spinach salad with chicken and cranberry Wensleydale cheese. It was OK. Now I'm wathching this video of Sarah Vowell and trying to force myself to focus on work for the next couple of hours.

Reeling from morning meeting with new boss and our team (whom he professes to respect AND admire) in which new boss outlined a new plan that meets ZERO of our needs, while trying to convince us we should be chuffed, cos hey, it's PLUS THREE NEW STAFF FOR US (except 2 of the 3 will do nothing to help us accomplish any actual work).

Super let down by new boss. I'm not used to hating my job.

Gearing myself to get out into the Tahoe snow and shovel six inches off my car to go to my house at lunchtime to shovel another foot of snow off my driveway on top of of the other foot of snow that fell in the early morning.

Just woke up from falling asleep on the couch after coming home from work.
I went running in the forest close to work around the former ultra long wave transmitting station of the Netherlands. From just after WWI when we had to keep touch with Indonesia. It's a gothic art deco concrete church of technology in the middle of a heath in a nature park.
As I was running it became dark.

Just got back from a longish lunch break in which I picked up the turkey I had ordered, along with about half the groceries we'll need for the long weekend. I really want it to turn out good but there are way too many "best" ways out there to do it.

Now need to do something productive for the next three hours. The snow is mostly melted but it will freeze when the sun goes down.

Sitting at the kitchen table after a day of teaching teens about depression and suicide. After the presentation at least 4 of the kids identified either themselves or someone they knew as needing to talk to someone, according to the guidance counselor.

Waiting for bread to rise. Waiting to go to a mefite's house for a pre-thanksgiving potluck. Hm. I should do a load of laundry!

Work. I tried a McRib last week, and was nonplussed, I remembered them as being better, this seemed like pork fat with barbecue sauce. I don't think I'll have any more.

Sitting in comfy chair with my feet up. One cat has created a hammock from the blanket on my lap and is suspended between my knees, while the other cat is curled up on my foot with her head on the first cat's butt. Foot is asleep and I have to pee, but I don't want to disturb them. Going to watch stuff on Hulu for the duration.

I've somehow spent most of my work day trying to figure out some of our operating expenses from 2008. I know there is a report out there that will pull together the documentation I need, but trying to run it keeps crashing my system. I'm about to start over for the third time and just walk away so I don't disturb my computer while it's working so hard.

Sitting at my desk after arriving two hours later than usual due to a major accident on the M1. Two and a half fucking hours sitting in my car for a 50-minute commute doesn't make me a happy boy. Tried to divert around the blockage, but everyone else had the same idea and just ended up sitting going nowhere on a different road. If I hadn't slept in a left at 5.30 as usual instead of 6.15, I would have missed it :-(

It's days like this I miss catching the train.

Daughter is bringing home dinner from Taqueria Fast. I should be cleaning but instead I just had a beer and finished reading Robin McKinley's new book, Pegasus. I do not recommend it for at least the next year or two because goddamnit it ends in the middle of the plot and clearly there's a sequel coming and if I had known that I would never ever have picked it up grarrrgh! Why don't they tell you these things upfront?

Broke down after a fruitless hour trying to install a game and use my AskMe question. Currently I am fucking about with firmware in order to make my DVD drive recognise that yes - there is in fact a disc ALREADY INSERTED GODDAMMIT! Contemplating eating a mini-pavlova that I bought for dessert.

mygothlaundry - I won't forgive Ms McKinley until she writes a third Damar book (one that was hinted at in the previous two no less), so thanks for the warning.

A Freecycler came and took the loveseat out of our dining room, where it's been sitting inappropriately since we moved in and learned it wouldn't fit through the living room door. 9 months ago. I hope they love it - it's a comfy couch. Then we went to the library and got some music and DVDs and a book about Italian-American popular song. Now eating Stouffer's French Bread pizza, because apparently it's junk-food=party week at Miko's as I lose focus on everything but Thanksgiving dinner, and some cheap red wine.

Miko. . .it's a very cold evening and the roads are icy but we are going to be out anyway and already have tix.. . so yeah I'll post about it. I reread the book a few weeks ago and wife is now over halfway though it. .we are in agreement about where we think the first movie will stop.

Just finished rolling out pie crusts for Thanksgiving and into the freezer they went along with the additional pie crust dough rounds that I apparently don't need! I forgot that my third pie uses a graham cracker crust.
