22 November 2010

Monday three-point status update: [More:]1. I'm in the middle of a row with an amateur group I was a member of. It's got my adrenaline levels up higher than I'd like, and I'm anxious because I hate confrontation, but I know I'm in the right and I'm gratified to have the support of some wonderful friends who have totally got my back.

2. Shedloads of work to do but am seeing my way through to a quieter time in the next few weeks, and am making plans to see friends which is cheering me up.

3. Thinking that Thanksgiving is a great tradition; a late November celebration of some sort would be a wonderful idea in this country. It's dark, cold, horrible and it's too long until Christmas.

How's your Monday?
Woke up with a major headache but full of energy.
Accomplished more in the last 2 hours than the last 2 weeks.
Need a rest break.

1. Slept late.
2. Worked. Ate.
3. Gonna sleep more now.

1. Apparently this is going to be the year where I spend enough time in doctors' offices and hospitals to make up for the decade or so I spent almost entirely out of them.

2. It also happens to be a year where I do not get paid time off for these things, sigh.

3. However, I have replenished my stores of lapsang souchong and so am now much better prepared for any adversity.

1. Doing a skit tonight in class, I'm playing an insane angry boss. The instructor keeps e-mailing about how he really wants to see rage. Sir, I don't think you know the fine talent you are dealing with here!
2. Dad is in town, having a ball. With work and class today, I won't see him almost all day, but he's running around, entertaining himself, and taking his son-in-law to the theatre tonight.
3. Looking forward to the long holiday weekend!

1. Nasty shoulder muscle pull, and I have no idea where it came from. How can I prevent these things from happening when I don't know where/when they occur?! Darn it hurts. *WHIMPER*

2. Holiday season=less down time. *WHIMPER*

3. Less down time=less time to play my new viola. *WHIMPER*

1) I'm in the middle of coordinating a family something that hasn't been pretty in previous years, and people keep demanding exceptions. Blah. Bah.

2) Woke up feeling fine, took my morning various meds, started throwing up half an hour later. I am not amused.

3) can the nausea stop now please?

1. I bought a new coat (the brighter green color) on Saturday. It's pretty cute, and it replaces a coat that was getting a little scuzzy around the edges -- as well as adds a new fleecy thing to my inventory! -- but it raises some grumpy body image issues for me. Namely, why the hell should I have to wear a men's XL, and will it look ginormous and balloony like my old one of this style did? (My old one, of course, was on a 17-year-old body that was 80 pounds lighter.) But I feel better knowing that I bought myself a nice coat that doesn't suck and is brightly colored.

2. Getting ready to pull out the Nasty Hammer on the wedding venue lady. There is absolutely no reason why she should be ignoring us like this.

3. Trying really hard to Do Things Now at the office today.

1. My brother and his wife gave me a KitchenAid mixer for my birthday.

2. I slept with it next to my bed. Because I was worried that someone would break into my apartment and steal it.

3. I think they just ruined gift-giving and receiving for me forever. No gift can ever top this.

1. We are trying to organize a Story Slam party for early Dec., having been to a MOTH one and loving it. Ours would not be a competition, though. There could be a raunch factor, so we need to think about the guest list a bit.

2. They are prediction snow on the ground tomorrow morning in the valley.

3. We are closing a bunch of schools because of budget woes, yet I have been tasked with estimating new playgrounds, from scratch, because one of the scenarios involves creating K-8 schools out of middle schools. It is very very strange.

My Aunt (who I mentioned in April, I think) is in Hospice and non-responsive. She apparently has just a few days left before she dies.

1. I moved desks today, from a desk in the middle of the floor to a much, much sweeter location. This is my new view.

2. Sausage, mash and onion gravy for supper. What could be better on a cold November evening.

3. Damn, it's turned cold here. Snow is forecast for later this week. Nooo!

Whuffles to deborah. KitchenAid Envy to punchtothehead.

1. A truly dreadful commute to work today. Seattle drivers can't handle even tiny amounts of snow, they just can't. Fortunately everyone else was late too. So we're all about a half hour behind together.

2. Counting down to our departure Weds. for the Oregon coast. I don't care how cold it is -- it will be great to be there for the holiday.

3. My dog has learned all the "kindergarten" tricks in our dog trick book. This weekend he mastered "Who's a Brave Dog?" which involves running behind me, poking his head through my legs, and staring up at me. Adorable, but that's how he rolls.

So Senyar, is that a lock between you and the O2 dome? Is it the Thames?

1. No longer working part-time at my partner's office, so I had time to clean the upstairs of the house today. I cleaned the kitchen yesterday. I have several loads of laundry done, and several more to do, but they're all sorted and ready to go. Feeling productive.

2. Got the Thanksgiving recipes decided and the shopping list together. Which also makes me feel productive.

3. Should probably at least start reading the book my supervisor gave me before I meet with that supervisor this afternoon.

deborah, *hugs*.

Huh, I was all excited to be one of the first commenters in a TPS post, but my comment from this morning seems to have been eated. =(

deborah, so sorry about your aunt.

1. I have been insanely busy with work and family commitments.

2. I am pretty happy that I am busy. It keeps me sane and on top of things.

3. I need to look up the violent video game studies. My kids play Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops. Do I deserve the Worst Parent on the Block award or what?

danf: There's a dock, a lock and then the Thames.

1. Much snow has fallen here in the south Puget Sound region, which is inconvenient and irksome and (as bearwife noted) commute-slowing, but also very, very beautiful. (And should all be gone by the end of the week, thank god.)

2. The window in my office is single-pane and does not appear to have been weatherstripped or caulked in any meaningful way, and so I have to take my hands off the keyboard and sit on them every few minutes to keep my fingers from going numb.

3. The students are all gone away for Thanksgiving! Hallelujah!!

Sorry to hear about your aunt, deborah. thinking of you.

1. Buying holiday cards on etsy. Fun fun!

2. The last few weeks my running has gotten way more infrequent. I need some motivation!

3. Making chili for dinner tonight. Om nom nom.

((deborah))

1. Thoroughly unmotivated at work. I'll put in the 40 hours, minimal effort, and just go to grad school. which they'd better damned well pay for.

2. Just another 10 days to go and I can get my door fixed.

3. Time for a walk.

1) Tired from a busy, fun-filled weekend.
2) Was super busy at work today, so at least it went by quickly.
3) Still just so pleased to be having such a wonderful time of late. I do wish it was somehow contagious, and transferable via online comments. Hugs to many of you!

1. Trying desperately, desperately to not get sick before the holiday. Half the office has the cold from hell, as does the GF. I've been battling it valiantly for the better part of a week, but I'm starting to feel it today. DO NOT WANT! Am going to make soup with an obscene amount of ginger and garlic for dinner.
2. As a consequence of the battle described in #1, I have a touchy stomach from consuming too much Vitamin C in the past 18 hours.
3. Looking forward to a nice road trip to see friends for Thanksgiving, and looking ahead to a longer road trip to Texas, by way of Las Vegas, around Christmas.

1. Day off (today, Tuesday. I live in the future, but this counts, right?). It's National Something Something Day! Me and the Boy are having "Thanksgiving" at another gaijin's house with some other foreigners. Should be nice.

2. So no Thanksgiving on Thursday for me, but also I'm not working Black Friday for the first time in three years, so that's awesome, too. Well, I mean I am, but the kids haven't the foggiest idea what Black Friday is.

3. Plans for Canada fell though, I think, which means our plans for the future, from March on fell through. We think we're under-qualified to apply for permanent residency. Should we even try if all I have is retail (non-manager) experience, and all he has is about two non-continuous translating documents from Japanese to English experience? He would have been the main applicant and me the dependent, because he's a stronger candidate right now.

3a. Plan *checking* E is to just apply for every job we can in Canada and hope for the best.

1. Hard day at work today. Mostly because there was very little work to be done. However, I did get a voicemail from my pdoc.

2. Bloodwork for vitamin testing came back today (which is lightning fast since they drew the blood on FRIDAY) and apparently I have a vitamin D deficiency. So when I picked up my new Seroquel tabs (400mg and it's still not knocking me on my ass or really helping), I picked up some vitamin D tablets.

3. Went to a NAMI Connection meeting tonight. Sobbed through the entire thing. I don't think I'm well enough to go to those sorts of group things since being sociable is a trigger for me. Shit. At least I made it through the entire hour when I was originally going to bail after 30 minutes!

3a. Now I'm too wound up to go to bed at my normal time (9-930pm) so I believe I will eat some cheese and crackers, work on my paper (that the assignment calls for 5-7 pages but I've managed to blather on for 19 pages including references but it's a tight paper and there's no penalty for going over), and possibly do some more coloring in my Hello Kitty coloring book.

Yes, I am 5 years old.

1. Have driven all the way to Florida. It is much warmer here.

2. Am kind of tired.

3. Will drive all the way back from Florida starting Friday.

(1) Snow day!
(2) Its cold though, so very, very cold. Even with the heat actively blowing on me its cold.
(3) This means it's gonna be ice tomorrow, which is the usual PNW snow pattern: a tiny amount of snow, it clears up and there is a sheet of ice for a week.

1) I have to be evaluated for possible really serious medical issue, but the specialist can't see me until January. It would almost be a relief if results were positive, because at least it would explain really weird, bad thing that's been happening to me.

2) Work sucked really really hard today.

3) Wonderful bf made me yummy calzone from scratch tonight, which tasted so good I ate the whole thing despite acid stomach from #1 and #2.
