09 November 2010

An mp3 shuffle thread, ten songs plus a **BONUS TRACK**[More:]

Believe me, I wish this could go up to twenty:

1. Big Boi - "The Train Part II (Sir Lucious Left Foot Save The Day) [Ft. Sam Chris]" from Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, 2010
2. Graham Parker - "Black Honey" from Heat Treatment, 1976
3. Eldridge Holmes - "A Love Problem", 1967
4. The Elgins - "Heaven Must Have Sent You", 1966
5. Alpha Blondy - "Bloodshed in Africa" from Jerusalem, 1986
6. Peverelist - "Clunk Click Every Trip" from Body Language Vol. 8, Mixed by Modeselektor, 2009
7. Mae Glover w/John Byrd - "Gas Man Blues", 192?
8. ZZ Top - "Enjoy And Get It On" from Tejas, 1977
9. MF Doom - "More Rhymin'" from Born Like This, 2009
10. Tom Petty - "It's Good to be King" from Wildflowers, 1994
**B0NUS TRACK** - Cotton Jones - "Blood Red Sentimental Blues" from Paranoid Cocoon, 2009
1. - Unknown Artist, "Vampira". Novelty Rockabilly song from the 60s. Cut above your monster mash stuff, and hey it's got a Vampira in it.
2. Hole - "Doll Parts" Cause sometimes you need to be 15.
3. Squirrel Nut Zippers - "Ghost Of Stephen Foster" ah, cat chase through a graveyard music!
4. Schaffer The Darklord - "Attack Of The Clonefucker". I'm sorry.
5. Beatrice Bonifassi - "Cabaret Opening" - Have you seen the Triplets Of Belleville yet? GO see it.
6. Dresden Dolls - "Girl Anachronism" - gah I missed the Halloween show despite being invited and like literally around the corner. Gah.
7. The Jam - "Art School" Boom boom de doo boom
8. Mc Frontalot - "Final boss", i have like three nerdcore songs on here and I've hit two.
9. Rufus Wainwright - "I'll Build A Stairway To Paradise." This song always sounds slightly stoned to me.
10. Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazelwood - "Some Velvet Morning". God I love this album.
*BONUS* - Vermillion Lies, "The Astronomer" oh hey! I know these people. The band is broken up but Kim is still doing solo stuff.

!. Moldy Peaches--Anyone else but you--that song made famous by the Juno soundtrack and then used in cruise ship commercials
2. Japandroids--The Boys are Leaving town
3. Daptone Gold--I need you to hold my hand--Actually this is from a great R&B comp called Daptone Gold but itunes didn't import the artist names.
4. Sleater-Kinney--the End of You--man did I love this album like ten-fifteen years ago. Hell, it's still a great album.
5. Lambchop--The petrified florist--I hate how Lambchop doesn't get more love in the US. This song has a great, almost creepy feel.
6. Iriving Fields Trio--David's Dance. Traditional Jewish tunes with a slight Latin twist
7. Dressy Bessy--Fare Thee Well--I really liked this guys in the early 2000s but this song is AWFUL.
8. Jimi Hendrix--Gypsy eyes--I think his greatest hits are still issued to every teenager
9. Postal Service--Clark Gable--this song makes me nostalgic
10. Treva Whateva--That's about it

Bonus: Jean-Pierre Allane--T'es Pas fou--from a comp of 60s French pop

1. "Message in a Bottle (acoustic)" -- John Mayer, no album listed [God, why can't he be less of a douche?]
*2. "Chicago Seemed Tired Last Night" -- The Hold Steady, Separation Sunday
*3. "Hard Times" -- The Stanley Brothers, Stanley Series Number 4
*4. "Brother Woodrow/Closing Prayer" -- Afghan Whigs, Gentlemen
5. "Temptation" -- New Order, Trainspotting soundtrack
6. "Spread" -- OutKast, The Love Below [needless to say, I have my headphones plugged in...]
7. "Moment of Clarity" -- DJ Danger Mouse [via the Beatles and Jay-Z], The Grey Album
*8. "Fucked Up" -- Lemonheads, Hate Your Friends
9. "Tumblin' Tumbleweeds" -- Sons of the Pioneers, from a friend's mix
*10. "Big Top Halloween" -- Afghan Whigs, Big Top Halloween
Bonus: "The Haka" -- New Zealand All Blacks :)

The starred ones are things that I ganked from my fiance's hard drive but haven't really listened to myself. I put so much on there that I feel like this isn't really representing the stuff I usually listen to! I might go start a different mp3 thread.

(But you should totally do both.)

1. ELVIS PRESLEY - My Wish Came True (Complete Singles) - This is cheesy from his melodramatic delivery to the Mitch Miller-like backing vocals. It will be leaving my MP3 very soon.

2. SONIC YOUTH - Confusion is Next (Confusion is Sex 1983) - Talk about Mitch Miller-like backing vocals!!! OK, maybe not.

3. the WALKER BROTHERS - I Can't Let Happen to You (After the Lights Go Out Best of) I just started watching the Scot Walker documentary a few days ago, so the timing on this is nice.

4. WANDA JACKSON - I Cried Again (Right or Wrong box) As this started i was going to say how much it sounded like a Hank Williams song, but a quick internet search reveals it IS a Hank Williams song.

5. DEVO - Mongoloid (Q Are We Not Men 1978) Well, now I know what riff will be stuck in my head rest of the day.

6. FUNKADELIC - Shockwaves (Electric Spanking of War Babies 1980) A little reggae from my favorite Funkadelic album.

7. ADAM and the ANTS - Los Rancheros (Kings of the Wild Frontier 1980) This was one of those albums that I played like crazy in High School.

8. the OFFSPRING - Bad Habit (Smash 1994) Sometimes a little testosterone injected punk pop is just what I need. Not today - it's just not doing anything for me.

9. the UNDERTONES - Joyland (Get What You Need 2003) Most Undertones would not give the Feargal Sharkey-less reunited Undertones a chance. I almost skipped it if not for the persistent raving of fellow Undertones fan. The album is really solid and has a nice mix of songs that pull from all four original studio albums without sounding like a mere replica of their former glory days. Seeing them live on this tour was a treat - the new singer pulled it off with flying colors.

10. BADFINGER - Rock of All Ages (Very best of) A hell of a great rock and roll burner!

11. ROLLING STONES - Hand of Fate (Black and Blue 1976) I'm currently reading the new Keith book and shuffle seems to be very Stones heavy of late, which is a nice coincidence.

Lots of old stuff. I've bought a lot of 2010 albums, but they never seem to come up on shuffle. I'd even be happy with a 2009 or 2008 release just so it doesn't look like I stopped buying new music when I graduated from college.
