gChrome question re: browser tabs. →[More:]

The favicon for pinned tabs in Google Chrome used to wink (grow and shrink) when you had new messages/events/notifications in that tab. Now the tab "shimmers" instead, which is totally invisible if you're at even a slight angle on an LCD monitor. Does anyone know of a way to restore the previous functionality? A setting or extension, maybe?

I am not having any luck when I search using "chrome tab alerts/notifications" or similar keywords.
