So I'm going to start to make jewelry I went to Michael's today and got some beads and stuff. I kept the color palette to shiny black squares and various large and small glass beads that fit what I would consider a group.[More:]

I got .5mm nylon cord as well as the findings for the connectors and the pieces to make earrings to match.

Does anyone have advice for a fledgling costume jewelry maker?

Of course I'll hit the google for this, but first I want to try my own designs.
Just go to Etsy, you can browse through the jewelry categories for inspiration or ideas. You can also buy dirt cheap supplies there, especially if you use the word destash when searching the supply category - lots of times people unload their extra beads and findings and whatnot for way less than they paid just to make room for newer stuff. Good luck! Share pics!

I came in to suggest the same thing iconomy did. If it's ever been made, it's probably on Etsy. And I'm sure the internets has plenty of How-to sites.

Fun! I have a beading, um, thing. It's a nice thing to work on in the winter when one's inside in the evenings, and can do while watching TV or whatnot.

You can look at Fire Mountain's catalogue for beading porn and inspiration.

I found a cheap beading board really helped lay out patterns before stringing.

Enjoy wearing your creativity!
