of Montreal: I know I'm a fanboy, but damn, the new album False Priest is brilliant.
Examples:

Coquet Coquette
Famine Affair
You Do Mutilate?[More:]

It continues in the "weird funk" vein of the last couple of albums, but I think bringing Jon Brion in as a producer has helped keep it in an orbit that people can relate to. It's still very much a tour of the inside of Kevin Barnes' head, but it's less frantic and noisy this time.
Sigh. I just can't get into it and since they're playing mostly new stuff on their current tour, I ended up leaving their show this week early. Alas.

A lot of people can't get into it and I think it's fascinating how of Montreal went from a twee-pop band to a funk band with some dark intentions. As much as I love the early stuff, I love the new funkiness even more. And if it drives away people not willing to go down that rabbit hole with them, that kind of cracks me up, too. of Montreal were always about going to the weird places.

The world always needs more funkiness!

I really like Coquet Coquette a lot (hate the video), but the rest of the album kinda left me meh. For Of Montreal, the funkiness is weird, but it's not weird funkiness. I think Brion and Barnes should have listened to Fear of Music a few more times. I am going to give the album a few more listens though, just in case I didn't get it.
