The county bookmobile would always have about 2 dozen film selections. I got to see many of these. Most were 20 minute abridgments of the original.

These are so cool. My parents owned a Super 8 projector and a camera... when I was like 2 or 3 years old Dad filmed me dropping a pair of golf balls onto the grass just so he could run it backwards and hey! The golf balls fly up into my hands!

Some of my earliest memories of "vacations" are of my extremely young parents in Gatlinburg and Panama City, as seen on those old Super 8 reels. I was in those movies, I just didn't remember the experience.

For some reason they also bought a bunch of Disney shorts on Super 8, so any time we watched the home movies there were Disney cartons in between. All silent, of course, but they were awesome.

I saw people's home made super 8s and I remember seeing some of the commercial ones at a used book and record store and I always wondered how they got a whole movie on one of those small reels. I guess Ardiril has answered that.

Now I wonder if those abridged versions were legal or pirated. I'm guessing pirated.
