Monday 3-point update →[More:]
1. I got a postcard today!

2. The flat is filled with the smell of Mexican pork which is frying in the skillet. I'm having it with brown rice, grilled peppers and a tortilla.

3. Trashy TV overload tonight - Judge Judy, followed by Britain's Next Top Model followed by Chef Academy. My excuse is that I've been reading boring/complicated financial stuff all day and my brain needs some down time.

1. Very quiet today. Just got word that a very difficult matter is hitting my desk tomorrow, though.

2. My skirt is seriously too tight. Think it's a go-to-the-gym-and-run-at-lunchtime day.

3. Speaking of too tight clothes, made some luscious frozen banana yogurt in my new ice cream/yogurt maker last night. Yum.

1. My doggy worries are lessened. She's at the vet right now getting splinted, but will not need surgery. Evidently she broke a toe and will be out of commission for 6-8 weeks.

2. I ordered a new quilt last week that arrived today. My dog doesn't need surgery and I got new bedding! Hooray!

3. My mother in law and I went used-book shopping this morning and I picked up "City of Thieves".

Senyar, can I come watch TV with you tonight?

1. I didn't get any work done over the weekend or get to work early today like I had planned. And now I'm here. I am having serious motivation issues.

2. Headache for days thanks to the rain.

3. I went to a dog's birthday party Saturday night. That is a first for me. He was thrilled by all of the attention.

1) My partner (who is, it must be said, preoccupied with lots of things) was in danger of forgetting to fill out a job application form. It was a state job with an online thingy, and I had my laptop today, so when we went to lunch I made sure to go to a place with WiFi and pulled it out. He made a face but did it anyway. Success!

I only do that because I've missed deadlines all the damn time and I don't want that fate to befall him too :(

2) God, my desk at work is such a shithole. I've been stockpiling padded envelopes under my desk for BookMooch, and two were peeking out onto the other side, and my boss finally pulled them out and plopped them unceremoniously on my desk. "I CAN'T STAND LOOKING AT THAT ANYMORE!" So I was dutifully chastised. I really should have come in over the weekend to clean it off.

3) Friends from WA coming to visit tonight! Yay!

1. I'm having a slow day and don't feel much like doing anything, which is being exacerbated by having nothing exciting to work on.

2. Had Chipotle for lunch, need a nap.

3. Need to go shopping for one dress - maybe two. We're going to a wedding next weekend and a cotillion the weekend after. I'm dreading it though, because most of the dresses I looked at online were short and I don't want a short dress.

1. Looking forward to an evening at home with the dog and cat, doing some exercise, and going to bed at a decent hour. I've been so busy, a regular night at home is very much needed.
2. I bought some stuff on Etsy and am so excited for it to arrive. Yay, things!
3. Our new pastor will be ordained in a month. The ceremony will be a big affair- he's very involved in local activities, he knows everyone. The council was discussing what to serve at his reception, and the old ladies were like, we've gotta have turkey! Ham! All the fixins! And the pastor and I are like, for 150-200 guests, that's not really all that practical (we've both spent time in Southern churches, where every reception is cake and punch, and that's fine by us). In what I take as frustration, one of the ladies said, why don't you just decide the menu, and we'll do whatever you want? Perfect. I think all disagreements should come down to that- let's do what I want.

1. Chores today. We went grocery shopping, and Jon's out doing laundry, bless his heart (I'll put it away later).

2. Speaking of junk TV, the Miss Universe pageant is on tonight. I have a "U" written on my hand to remind me. Maybe I'll make popcorn.

3. Looking forward to the U.S. Open next week. I have tickets for three days. Hope the weather's good. Then it's back to work after Labor Day. The summer's gone by so fast. I must order some new shoes.

1. So tired. I know that one of the side effects of the meds I'm on is tiredness and I am going to bed at a decent hour and sleeping well but I'm still waking up every few hours. It's starting to make me cranky.

2. My meds aren't doing anything to combat The Sad although they are doing wonderful things for my anxiety. (I talked to two different strangers! With more than just hand gestures and grunts! Progress!) I still feel weird about asking her for new/different medication.

3. Finally got my training schedule for the Civil War Widows project I'm volunteering at NARA for. Very excited for actual training and finally doing something that I found all by myself.

1. I have this new routine where I ride my bike to school with the kids in the morning. I leave the bike at school. I walk home and reverse when the school day is over. I am determined to walk/ride with them every day that I am off. Usually I just ride both ways and last year my husband rode with them more than I did.

2. It is pouring rain. We made it home just in time. I rally hope baseball practice is canceled tonight. Then I could watch trashy TV.

3. I am doing a "Biggest Loser" contest that lasts for 12 weeks. My employer is a big sponsor. Wish me luck!

2. This weekend, I learned that my breast cancer lifetime risk went up to about one in four.
3. I feel guilty making this about me, but for various tl;dr reasons, there isn't anything I can do for my sister. I didn't even hear it from her, I don't think I'm supposed to know. But it's bad.

1. Have the week off. Not doing much vacation-wise, but it's good to have a break from the office. My cat is very pleased.
2. Am to go have a very minor medical procedure in about half an hour. It's no biggie at all, but nevertheless one gets figity.
3. Because of #2, I have just taken (as instructed) some 800 mg of ibuprofen, so pretty soon I imagine my muscles will be completely unable to figit.

1. Went to a Red Sox game on Sat. for the first time in around 3 years. Parking $35 (cheap section); hot dog $5; "premium" beer (i.e. not Miller lite) $8. Brings to mind the old joke: "Why do dogs lick their balls? Because they can!"

2. Seeing freshman college roommate for dinner tonight; junior roommate Fri; favorite professor next week. Slight people overload, but glad to see these folx.

3. Annual meeting with petty tyrant last week went well; this year, I knew not to provoke him by saying things like "but that doesn't make any sense!" and instead just smiled and nodded, and we both went away satisfied with the outcome.

That project sounds really neat, sperose!

1) Got news last week that my TSH (thyroid stuff) came back abnormal. Will be going to the doctor tomorrow. This may explain much of how I've been feeling recently.

2) Coworker just got extremely aggro on me (in a meeting with my boss there) because she thought I was covertly criticizing her. She read WAY into something and found something that wasn't there. I went to talk to her to figure out WTF caused her to freak out on me, and she continued being aggro. I cried. See #1.

3) I still haven't dealt with #2 completely and am not sure how to move forward.

1. Back to work after a week off. . .starting slow.

2. Renting a sailboat tomorrow. I have the itch. I used to day sail in So Cal a bit (borrowed boats) and have sailed once since living in Oregon, and survived it. I am nervous but with a sailboat, it's hard to kill one's self or anyone else.

3. In my family, the 3 of us have B-days in a span of 12 days. So it's bday season. Fun, yet exhausting.

1. Last night my husband and I met some greyhounds and picked the guy that will soon be part of our family! He is verrrry handsome and sweet and just the right mix of fun and mellow. The greyhound group we're adopting him from just brought up a load of like 20 dogs from a Florida track, so they hinted that the sooner we could take him, the better - so we will probably bring him home this weekend. (Normally they foster dogs that have been staying in the kennel in a foster home for a week, to get them used to home life. But since we have greyhound experience they said we can "self-foster.")

2. We bought a giant crate because he is a big tall boy and it didn't fit in our car, so we had to strap it to the roof to get it home. New doggie!

3. Really, that's all that's occupying my thoughts right now. New doggie!

What a gorgeous dog. Look at that muscle definition! I bet he was a winner! I love greyhounds. If I ever had a dog, it'd be a greyhound.

Oh, what a great greyhound! So pretty. (My parents have greyhounds--they're awesome.)

1. My car's transmission went bad so . . . I GOT A NEW CAR TODAY!! Like brand new!! It was . . . unexpected.

2. Because of car-buying, I was late to my hair appt, which stressed me out. Since I hadn't eaten in like 5 hours, the lovely salon ladies gave me a donut!! (A new Krispy Kreme opened up in town--the donuts were frosted with UNC colors.)

3. Came home to a work problem that I can't figure out how to solve. So frustrating.

1. I mowed my lawn. While I was moving a cinder-block out of the way, I banged it against my shin. I now have a huge, bloody, golf-ball-sized welt.

2. I'm trying to work up to nerve to ask a woman out on a date.

3. I'm now going to go spend some time in the squat rack, hoping for endorphin-fueled courage.

He's going to be so glad to get home. And that crate is going to scare the shit out of him forever, if you strap it to the car with him in it.

1. interview tomorrow panic omg! And I forgot to bring my GPS so I'm going to be SO lost in the Bay Area these few days.

2. Immediately after I get home from this I have a friend visiting for the weekend and my apartment is so so so not clean. augh.

3. I stayed up all night yesterday figuring out how to hem a pair of pants. Smarter people would have just taken them to an alterations shop. Especially on ultrashort notice like this.

1. Spent today at the local children's museum with in-laws and my 5-year-old niece. Lots of fun, and very interesting indeed to be there with my SIL: I'm interested in museum studies and she's a children's museum/theater presenter, so we got a chance to chew over the exhibits together.

2. Pretty tuckered out now: a long day of climbing-crawling-sliding, all after a weekend of feeling not-so-great.

3. We had planned to go out to a neighborhood screening of The Room tonight, but we'll see. Maybe I'll stay in tonight.

1. Just home from a job interview that I think went really well. Won't know for several weeks though; cautiously optimistic.

3. Listening to the thunder roll and the rain fall. I like thunderstorms.

1. The cat apparently really needs to sleep on my lap, even though it's 90 degrees. I may have a furry heatstroke.

2. I feel like I should probably start wedding planning, but I can't quite get motivated yet. (Related: Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta is really annoying. Why is everyone so nasty and sarcastic? It's weird when the NYC/Brooklyn version of a store comes across as much friendlier and bubbly than the Southern version.)

3. I was planning on roasting a chicken for dinner tonight, but see above re: 90 degrees. But I don't really have anything else in the house to cook, and I don't want to go back out, so.... I dunno.

1. Spent yesterday picking up a dresser and moving furniture around my bedroom. Because...

2. My beau of 8 1/2 months will be moving in, part time (I live too far from his job for a daily commute. So weekends and one weekday he will be here with us. The rest of the time he'll be either at his sister's or his mom's.)

3. This is sinking in and I am very happy to find that I am excited, rather than scared to death.

1. Had a job interview last Thursday and was told in sekret Friday that I've won the job. Yay! Something of an anti-climax, though, as it's only the job I've been doing for nine months now

Ah yes, to clear up any confusion 24 hrs later - it's a wire crate like this and is intended to be his doggy home when we are at work. Ex-racing greyhounds are used to living in kennels so crate training is very helpful for them, even though he's 3 years old and we probably won't have many house training issues. It will also help ease our mind while he and the cats get used to each other.

The dog will be brought to our home by the adoption group. Future travel with dog will be in our car wearing a doggy seat belt, no crate.
