My son cooked a pound of bacon for breakfast. I am not supposed to eat bacon. These are the moments when I question life quality vs quantity. heheh
Bacon? *snort* There's no ambiguity on that one. Eat away.

If it makes you feel better, I have more than doubled my "allotted" amount of coffee for the day. Questionable dietary decisions, FTW!

I cheat on my caffeine too by taking an Excedrin Migraine at noon to fight the side FX of all my other meds.

I take Excedrin in the morning instead of coffee since it has a mere 65mg caffeine... but then, in the afternoon... yeah, it's totally coffee time. That is, unless it can be nap time, which if these two kids want to live until the end of the day - is not going to happen.

One of our favorite things in Vegas were the giant bins of bacon and sausage at the breakfast buffets. Needless to say, the cantelope on my plate tended to go uneatten.

At a Vegas buffet, you learn that bacon really does go with everything.

My father was on dialysis and had a bad heart and so had a very restricted diet, especially liquids. Whenever I came to visit (2-3 times a year), he would go out buy a bottle of wine, "for Janet, because she likes wine," but really so he could cadge just a little of it whenever I drank some. Good times.

For my father, JanetLand, it was O'douls. What's corned beef on football Saturdays without a beer.

Ugh bacon is so disgusting. I can't decide whether the smell is worse than the taste.

I love bacon, but I can't have it too frequently. Maybe four times a year, if that, is enough for me. I just had some for lunch today, actually.

I know all those words but, when you put them together in that order, I just can't make sense of them.

Working in cardiac rehab I have four coworkers that make firm declarations of what they don't eat and will never eat. It's amazing and sometimes inspiring (and at the same time boring because it's a bit restrictive) what they forgo in the name of health. They never touch (I mean never):

donuts or cake
pizza
bacon or any other fatty cut of meat including chicken wings
pasta
most red meat
most bread
most cheeses
most restaurants (they wouldn't be caught dead in a place like Outback, Red Lobster, or Cracker Barrel, not because they are considered pedestrian but because of the menu)

LoriFLA - I tend to avoid the same sorts of restaurants (most chain "family" style and all fast food, come to that) for similar reasons - I find the food grotesque when it's not actually gross. But no cheese or bread? No Sunday morning donuts? That's one of those "you may not actually live longer, but it'll seem that way" things.

Now that the tomatoes are starting to ripen in the garden, our consumption of BLTs has increased exponentially.
And don't worry about eating a pound of bacon. After cooking, it's more like 1/3 pound of bacon.

I am on a BLT w/homegrown tomatoes kick as well. OMG.

You know, some time ago I read a nutritional comparison of bacon with olive oil. Maybe it was bacon grease with olive oil. Anyway, the upshot is that no, bacon is not something you can stand to eat very often, but it isn't the 100% sinfully demonic food we are often led to think. 1/3 of the fat in bacon is unsaturated and I think it has some Omega 6s. And bacon is not especially high in calories, in small portions, and delivers a ton of flavor for a small amount of bulk. I know if you're following a very structured dietary plan it may just plain be verboten, but I think it gets unfairly demonized - or exaggeratedly fetishized, the other side of the coin - sometimes.
