I like ABBA, so fire me!! [More:]I'm in my office, door closed, blasting "Dancing Queen" on my teeny laptop speakers, lipsynching and generally feeling all Fridayish, when my boss barges in without knocking. The look on his face? Priceless!! (kinda like er what is this black chick from darkest africa doing listening to Abba??) His actual words? 'oh. Hi. Oh. Um. My mom likes that song.
Me: cool...u need something?
Him: er..um, no, just saying hi.
Me: oh ok. Hi. Glad it's Friday huh? ["you are a dancing queen, young and free..." still blasting in the background)
Him: yah, well..ok, i'll leave you to it [waves hand in vague motion]
Me: [big grin] have a good weekend!!

How's everyone else's Friday coming along? (or Saturday, if you're in that part of the world)
[..."feel the beat from the tambourine, oh yeah..."]
Yay, ramix! Sending you a biiiiiig hug!
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life...

I think I was the only person in Massachusetts in 1980 who loved ABBA.

The winner takes it all...

"Young and free"? I thought it was "young and sweet."

When I'm searching for metaphors for romance, I too reach for Napoleon and Lord Wellington.

Man, now I want to watch Muriel's Wedding.

If loving ABBA is wrong, I don't want to be right.

This is my favorite ABBA song.

Also, now that I see ramix got to my reference first, I think we are all Super Troupers.

ABBA is a great band and a great report card.

I don't think they've ever done anything better than 'Waterloo'. I still remember seeing them for the first time when I was a teenager. It was, of course, when they won Eurovision in 1974. Those blue satin knickerbockers!

Heh, mdonley, funny you should mention that...that's what i got for my A Levels...(british exams that determine university placement). A for Art, A for Geography, B for Religion, B for General Studies.

Oh and i really like Andante Andante, and On and On and On (one of the more obscure Abba songs)

I used to think you people were cool.

(ABBA makes my ears bleed. Carry on.)

I like ABBA. Ignore my wife, she's crazy.

The only time I was DJing at a station that played ABBA was when "The Name of the Game" was a hit. As part of my efforts to destroy my future radio career, when the song played I would occasionally respond to the lyric "What's the name of the game" by shouting out (with the mic on) "SCRABBLE!" "YAHTZEE!" "QUOITS!" "FAMILY FEUD!" "CRICKET!" "CONNECT FOUR!" "THE PRICE IS RIGHT!" etc. etc. Sadly, this predated Trivial Pursuit and Hungry Hungry Hippos. BTW, there are some people (even some ABBA fans) who like the way many of their songs sound played backwards.

OH. Arg. WARNING.

Do NOT click any of the Youtube links in this thread; it will lead to getting sucked into the black hole of ABBA earworms and you will be overcome by nostalgia.

I thought that was to be assumed, Doo...

So the BF and I were out with a group celebrating someone's birthday. There was karaoke to be had and a random person chose Dancing Queen. The BF sat in the background, lip syncing all the lyrics. When a friend in our group noticed, he pretended to stop, but continued when he thought her concentration was elsewhere. Yes, my BF knows all the words to Dancing Queen. And I love him for it.

Muriel's Wedding is aces. I like it even better than I like ABBA (which is situational).

Then there's Hung Up....
