If you were to stand up, back away from the computer, [More:] and move to the center of the room, could you accurately perform the electric slide?
Not without a once-through reminder. I can, however, do the Hitchhiker.

Pretty much, yeah!

No. I've never known how to do it and I don't want to start now.

no, I have no idea.

I could, if the dog got out of the way. When she sleeps like she's sleeping right now, though, I would trip.

Having seen videos of me attempting certain fairly obvious dance steps, I realize I have a talent for making any form of dancing indistinguishable from involuntary muscle spasm. Also, I have a relatively small room with things imposing into the 'center' of it. I could only have sufficient room for such an experiment if I went outside in front of my apartment, and then, based on my first statement, my neighbors would probably just call 911, believing I was having seizures.

Nope.

Very well. I propose the following plan. TPS shall be known as North/West and take the Left front corner of the group. Msali shall be South/West, Miko South/East (giving her two turns of the wheel before the group follows her, and I shall take North/East. The rest of you, disperse yourself in between the corners. Now. Everybody try to remember to smile.

In case we ever all find ourselves in such a situation. Wedding, "Win It In A Minute" type challenge, The Depths of Hell.

Other ideas and further self-reporting is encouraged.

I have sneakers on and am on carpet. I would not go well.

I have no idea but I generally avoid the dance floor if I can help it (i.e it's not me getting married).

I have the space, but not the knowledge, nor even a thirst to get the knowledge.

I'm doing some sort of slide. Not very electric though. :/

Sadly, I don't go to enough wedding receptions to have an accurate muscle memory of the Electric Slide.

Yes and no.

I'm so cool that I only dance on the inside.

I couldn't even do "the wound-up-rubberband slide". But the "standing still" - no problem.

Is this something I would need a television to understand?

I have space, but no knowledge. And I would probably be too embarrassed to make an attempt.

the Electric Slide (warning: MyHumpsFilter)

disclaimer: I don't dance unless there be mosh pits involved.

If you attempt this dance on a shag rug, does it become the Static Electric Slide?
posted by oneswellfoop 11 August | 17:52
lonefrontranger, that was cool. It was a similar event - not recorded - at my office today that inspired the post - I held an impromtu clinic. As you can see, there is no actual sliding required, unless you choose to style it up. Funny.

Is that what they call it when the cat pulls itself across the floor with its front paws?

(Have space but no clue.)

Alright, I just did it to lfr's link. I accidentally kicked the dog, but did not trip over her. She had the good sense to get out of my way after one whole way around.

msali - way to be prepared!

I'm not proud, I'm just saying. If you are called upon to do the ES, get with your corners. We are here.
posted by rainbaby 11 August | 21:46
My dad uses the Continental as his all-purpose dance. I think it's pretty similar. I would perform some hybrid of the ES and the Continental.

Or, you know, this.

Skin the duck, skin the duck, skin the duck, skin the duck, double jelly roll and FIE!
