hacker frustration So my gmail got hacked a couple days ago. I didn't have the info to all their questions (since I was an early adopter and have no idea who gave me my invite or what month it was) and I had to make a new account. But, the time between when they actually disabled my old gmail and when it was hacked was enough for the scammer to get access to my facebook, too. They noticed the scamminess quicker than gmail and disabled my profile right away.
[More:]
I emailed facebook but I'm wondering if I should just make a new account. Is there any chance of me actually getting my old one back. I've read some horror stories of people dealing with getting their facebook accounts un-disabled. Weeks and longer, that sort of thing. Anyone ever deal with this?

(yes, already checked all other stuff, changed passwords, etc. Bank and finance stuff was never tied to the email in question, thankfully)
I had a friend get hacked with the exact same scam last week, and he got his own Facebook back pretty quick. Hang in there - they seemed to have little trouble with his account, so I hope you have the same good luck.

Hopefully. I have a party planned for this friday and since I made the event it disappeared with my account (even though my roommate was an admin on it, too).

Just frustrated since I haven't heard anything from Facebook yet. :( Although knowing I'm not the only one is a relief.

damn that's a pain. I can't imagine losing my gmail I should get the archive of emails somehow. Same with fb for that matter we got stuff in our inboxes, walls, etc that can be somewhat part of our lives over a stretch of years

hope your fb gets restored soon!

Got it back not too long ago. Have to say, I'm surprised by how fast they were. Gmail was a bigger pain. They wanted my most frequent contacts (no problem. I even provided my most recent emails sent thanks to my iphone saving them), but they also wanted the month and year I opened my account, the person who gave me the invite code, the invite code number (I opened my account in 2005, I don't even have the email address I was using before), and the month and year I started using every one of their services. It sucks since I had all my papers from school archived in my docs account, and I could send them those as more proof, but they make it impossible to contact a real person.

GMail was a pain for my friend, too. He actually ended up having a bunch of his friends email Google to vouch for his identity. He's somewhat "internet famous" so they used his other sites to verify his identity. I am surprised at how anal they are about it. Crazy stuff.
