The Ghosts of World War II's Past: taking old World War II photos, Russian photographer Sergey Larenkov carefully photoshopped them over more recent shots to make the past come alive.

Way, way cool. Kids should see these...sometimes it's hard to relate to a place with just old quaint photos, but these can really drive the message home.

These do a very good job of a particular thing: making you realize what an intrusion war is into daily life. It's too easy to look at pictures of WWII destruction and just imagine, hey, this was ages ago and life was rough and primitive and people in Europe were used to being striven and war-torn. But in fact, the appearance of a building crumbled by a bomb in the middle of a residential street was no less horrifying and shocking then than it is today. The normal, comfortable, domestic environments of life being overtaken by destruction is never expected.
