PJ Harvey I've only 'really' heard a few songs from her but I was looking her up on youtube and have a feeling I can really get into her work. Tell me which tracks you like from her.→[More:]
Got Rid of Me album already, gonna listen to it soon
Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea is probably her most accessible album. Although Teclo from the album BP mentioned is probably my favorite track, that I have heard from her. The guitar on that track is very evocative of Hendrix's softer work.
Rid of Me and Dry are the best in my humble opinion. Coincidentally, I just listened to four of her albums in a row this afternoon, and I was disappointed to be reminded that, although I still think she's awesome, she's pretty repetitive. I'd go as far as to say there seems to be certain formula to her songs and a monotonous quality to her singing after a while.
But, as I said, i do still think she's a badass and enjoy her music in smaller doses.
I've seen her live, a really petite BUCKETOFENEGERY, she impressed me for having so much charisma even though she looked like she was three apples high (from where I was, in the way back). I went solely because of down by the water which was at the time the only song of hers I had really listened to.
Rid Of Me is my favorite. To Bring You My Love and Dance Hall At Louse Point (with John Parish) are favorites too. I don't like her later stuff as much.
Dry and Rid of Me are my personal faves, To Bring You My Love sometimes veers off into Diamanda Galas territory, which is alright. I don't much care for her later stuff. Stories from the City was the last album I have and I was disappointed. Nothing beats hearing 50Ft Queenie for the first time.
