You ever date anyone on your sports team? I'm on a softball team and we just had our last game. I was thinking of asking out a particular team member after the season was over, but the captain suggested that we join the next league which starts in two weeks. [More:]

We're both interested so it looks like we will be on the team for a few months. Should I still ask her out? I was waiting until the season was over to avoid any awkwardness if things don't work out. I love being on the softball team and hanging out with this small group twice a week so I'm reluctant to crap where I sleep, so to speak.
I thought that was at least 1/2 the point of amateur sports? I know that when I was in an Ultimate Frisbee league there was lots of dating/hookups going on.

Thirding. It's kind of tragic, actually...they say you "don't need to be any good" to participate on these teams, but I can't get over the humiliation of my childhood (being forced to play, having everyone laugh at me for being so awful) to actually try it, and potentially meet someone. *sigh*

Our coed softball team had a few marriages and divorces, and all participants kept playing.

You just have to have sufficient relational "hygiene" to keep various issues where they belong. And if she misses the cutoff, you will need to let someone ELSE inform her.

I guess this is the thread in which I repeat my alltime favourite mr. lfr quote. We've known each other for four years as teammates on our cycling team. When he originally asked me out, I was unsure about the whole thing (for various reasons) but "team awkwardness" was the excuse I cited. His response?

"dude, who the fuck's gonna care? Half the team is either dating, married to, or sleeping with the other half!"

the rest, as they say, is history.
