Time to Motivate! I've got Important Guests coming this evening, and the house is...not ready. Normally I'd do these things throughout the weekend. So this is the Weekend To-Do-List. [More:]

• Mow lawn, front and back. If necessary, get more gas. Likely to be necessary.
• Put clothes away
• Clean guest bathroom, and prepare for guests.
• Clean master bath.
• Put IKEA furniture together.
• Wash dehydrator after the pineapple is done drying.
• Clean out fridge
• Clean off kitchen table and other surfaces that have clutter. Find place for clutter (Easier said than done)
• Sweep, swiffer, vacuum, dust.
• Garden? Don't know if there's time.

What's on your to-do list?
Oh, gosh, I dunno.

-Go to the beach
-Water and weed the garden
-Reconcile checking account
-Slow Food potluck
-Farmer's market
-Clean bedroom which is like a locker room right now

ooh ooh can I join in? I have house guests coming at the weekend and need to prepare for them and wind down from a very busy work week (which, however, is finishing now, at 2pm).

-Put work to bed for the weekend by preparing list of things to do on Monday
-Grab lunch from somewhere
-Weed front garden
-Vacuum visible bits of house & guest bedroom
-At least 3 loads of laundry
-Make kitchen less unhygienic & more aesthetically pleasing
-Clean bathroom
-Cook dinner (bonus question for onlookers: any aubergine/eggplant recipe ideas?)
-Sort out musical instrument & house insurance, both of which are due for renewal

Mow lawn, front and back.

Cooling down now. Already 77F/25C out there. Next is breakfast and then I'll tackle the baths.

altolinguistic: I have a bounty crop of eggplant. I've been roasting it on the grill and then making baba ganoush.

excellent!

* finish organising birthday gifts for the 80 million kids I know that were born in July/August and get them wrapped and mailed
* scrub stove top, wash walls around stove
* normal Friday evening apartment cleaning
* baby's laundry
* make black bottoms and raspberry slice for dessert for visitors tomorrow night
* work on photobook that I am making for my mother
* email: Mum, Jet, Sez, Sharon
* break news to mother that we will def. be in the USA for at least the next 5 years, given that we are in the process of buying a place. (by far the hardest point on my list)

- Go to the gym.
- Head over the river to do a neighborhood garden cleanup.
- Go to the library? Maybe? Or go kayaking. Haven't decided yet.
- Make some bean salad.
- Eat the heck out of the bean salad.
- Paint my kitchen. Or not. Probably not.
- Go to the mefi meetup!
- Have some tea.

Eggplant recipes...curry? Smitten Kitchen had a delicious but ugly recipe for eggplant pasta.

If I had an eggplant right now, I would slice it into long strips, grill those, then wrap them with ricotta or goat cheese with some sundried tomatoes, olives, and capers.

I love eggplants in pasta bake. Stew, if you have too many veggies, I'm happy to take some off your hands! ;)

My weekend to-do list:

Work all Saturday.
Maybe dust-bust a little.
Do nothing the rest of the time.

Stewriffic, make sure to prioritize! Don't get too stressed out about cleaning the dehydrator or cleaning the master bath because of the arrival of your Very Important Guests. If I am on a tight deadline, I make sure that the Stuff that the Important Guests can see is neat and tidy, and I stash the other stuff away, so I don't turn into Stressy Popkins before their arrival. Make sure you give yourself time to destress before they get there!

With that said, my weekend plans include the following:

- I am already in the in-laws house at the beach, we got the trip out of the way yesterday.
- Local department store has a big and tall section (husband is tall, not big), and I have a 15% coupon, in addition to their annual sale. I want to head over and see if I can find some things my husband can comfortably wear.
- Walk the dog on the beach, repeatedly.
- Fix my in-laws new computer. Well, not fix it per-se, just make Windows 7 play nice with Windows Live and Open Office. My poor mother-in-law has gone absolutely mental trying to recreate her email groups in Live, importing files from Open Office. She knows just enough to be dangerous, and has thrown both her mental well-being and Live out of whack.
- Eat fruit.
- Most importantly: WATCH WORLD CUP!!!! Only two games left, I am so sad. But I am gearing up for WC in my country next! Brazil, here we come!

• Clean guest bathroom, and prepare for guests.

• Sweep, swiffer, vacuum, dust.
In progress. Some of this is done, and some of it DC will do. We're pitching in on some of this. Some other things are his domain, like the kitchen.

• Clean master bath.
Next on the agenda. This is actually a shared bath because it's in the hall, so it's a must do.

Stewriffic, make sure to prioritize!
Oh, don't worry, I am. The kitchen is the worst part. And the clutter is a close second. I'm the cluttermeister, so after I clean the master bath, I'll be working on that. It's by far the scariest of these.

leesh: I may take you up on that. I don't deliver though. :-)

Pleasant: watch TV (Price Is Right; Divorce Court; Judge Joe Brown...); pick up Chinese food for lunch (mmmm... garlic chicken -- lunch special, with egg roll, only $6); call mom at Jewish Home (she was in the hospital for a few days with a bad throat infection and dehydration after a fall in the bathroom, where luckily she didn't break anything -- she'll just be at the Jewish Home a few days at most now before she goes home; poor little ma); go see mom up in Connecticut tomorrow (my brother will pick me up from the train; he had to get the fire department to get the bathroom door open when our mom fell and wasn't able to get up; she passed out from the dehydration/blood pressure medication combo and banged her head and shoulder, but she's doing really well now, after I.V. fluids and antibiotics for her throat; anything's worrisome, at first, given she's (shhhh) almost 95).

Less pleasant: mop kitchen floor (which I haven't done in full since we moved in seven years ago); shelve remaining books after our big JunkLuggers purge (Jon thinks the books will likely show up at the Strand); get the rest of the gar-bage together for garbage night (I've been on a cleaning binge; yesterday, I swept out the closets, under the bed (there was a colony of dustball socks under there, along with another couple dozen books), and Jon's office. Good thing I'm not allergic to dust!). It's good I'm cleaning, but I'm probably doing it to avoid the writing I need/want to do. No work excuse over the summer.

By cluttermeister, I mean The One Who Creates The Clutter. Not to be confused with the clutter guru, which I wish I were.

OK, the lunch break turned into a lot more time than I'd wanted it to. I need a motivator. Motivator will be thus: When I declutter the living areas and have cleaned the master bath, I will go get a pedicure.

OK. Living room and den decluttered. Master bath cleaned. Pedicure time.

Driving my son to the National Guitar Workshop where he will be spending the next 2 weeks. (first time away from home for more than a singe night.)

Stew, I am happy to drive to your place if such a drive results in veggies. Anytime--let me know! :)

Pedicure accomplished. Taking a break.

Updated list:
• Mow lawn, front and back. If necessary, get more gas. Likely to be necessary.
• Put clothes away
• Clean guest bathroom, and prepare for guests.
• Clean master bath.
• Clean off kitchen table and other surfaces that have clutter. Find place for clutter (Easier said than done)

• Sweep, swiffer, vacuum, dust.(getting there)

Off the list:
• Garden? Don't know if there's time.
• Put IKEA furniture together.
• Wash dehydrator after the pineapple is done drying.
• Clean out fridge

leesh, I'll let you know soon. Eggplant is what I can most spare, but the ones still on the vine need a few more days. Peppers later in the summer. Tomatoes are still sparse. Squirrels have been getting them unless I take them off the vine when they're starting to ripen and then bring them in to finish. Bummer.
posted by Stewriffic 09 July | 14:59
Oh, don't worry if you don't have a million extras--I just remember whenever we grew zukes or tomatoes when I was growing up, we'd end up foisting them off on the neighbors b/c we had too many.

* finish doing monthly backups
Spybot and my iPod backup are currently running away and they're the last 2 things to be done.
* clean interior of fridge and wipe off table once the trash/recycling has been taken out
The fridge and recycling were done after my doctor's appointment and the table and trash after I went to the gym.
* not freak out about doctor's appointment in 2 hours
Psychiatrist said it is likely pleurisy and that I need to quit being a slacker and get a PCP like a grownup and to not nap anymore until my sleeping schedule levels itself out.

* fill out clearance paperwork
* figure out what the hell it is that I need to do for school in terms of the discussion board/blog shitfuckery
* do reading for school
* plan site visit assignment (which I'm supposed to have already made an appointment for by today, whoops)
* do article critique assignment (which is due Tuesday and I don't have an article yet)
* avoid my family members

So far, I've managed to avoid the clutches of my mother (who has called once and emailed once so far today) but I have a feeling that my father may show up call to get instructions on how to get pictures off my mother's digital camera. Again.

I think that I'll go sit in the sun of the guest bedroom and do the rest of my book reading (1.25 chapters left this week) for school in my cozy chair before having to return to my desk chair to read articles.

Important Guests were to arrive at 10 p.m. It's now 11. They'll be here at 11:39 if their plane isn't further delayed. Argh!

-Put work to bed for the weekend by preparing list of things to do on Monday
This involved finding out that I have to do some work today or I won't get all of tomorrow's items done [cries]

-Grab lunch from somewhere
-Weed front garden

This was deemed to be not a high enough priority

-Vacuum visible bits of house & guest bedroom
Removed approximately half a cat's worth of fur from carpet.

-At least 3 1 loads of laundry

-Make kitchen less unhygienic & more aesthetically pleasing
-Clean bathroom
-Cook dinner (bonus question for onlookers: any aubergine/eggplant recipe ideas?)

All done, though the aubergine remains unused as that was too much like hard work for a Friday evening.

-Sort out musical instrument & house insurance, both of which are due for renewal

-- Not done yet, can wait.

Removed approximately half a cat's worth of fur from carpet.

Amazing, isn't it? Before I had cats, I hadn't managed to get through the 10-pack of bags that I got free with my vacuum cleaner a decade ago. Now, I go through about one a month.

They get so upset about it, too, like I'm undoing all the hard work they put into plating the entire carpet with their fur.
